Aaron
Bought my first project car today! Its a 1986 VW Jetta Coupe Wolfsburg Edition. It is a gas/manual car and is in pretty good shape. Only rust that isn't surface is on the passenger side door jamb, on the lower panel, and the front tip of the passenger door. Shouldn't be too hard to fix the existing rust. I went to look at a pair of VW Caddy's (think MK1 El Camino) but were rusted to death. This was sitting out front! I love these cars, and am very excited. Long term goal is to get it straight, painted, and swap in a VR6. Obviously need suspension and brakes to hold the extra power. They weigh 2300lbs, and with a stock 12V VR6, will have 172hp. Should be a fun drive!!!! Car is straight, and I am looking forward to getting it back to Westerville. I go to pick it up this Saturday. http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/A4SHO/0411001328.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/A4SHO/0411001328a.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/A4SHO/0411001327.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/A4SHO/0411001328b.jpg I will be keeping this thread as my project thread, and updating it when I do stuff. I know this isn't most people's cup of tea, but I am very excited. Farkas
Won't lie.. there isn't much about MK2s that I find much appealing. However, I do like the fact that it's a Jetta coupe.. awesome!

zeitgeist57
Will do, hopefully you wont convince me to buy $100 tools though!!!! At least we know for sure that ONE of us has Gearwrenches! I've already used them on the Corvette in a couple of tight spots. Worth every penny.
zeitgeist57
Thought about this tonite...are you SURE you want to go VR6? I would think a 1.8T/5speed swap would maybe make more sense...moar power and tunability, better reliability...?
BoostedAce
Hey Aaron, nice project car, is this going to be at your parents or did you get your own home, I can't remember but if you need some help im down the street.
Patterson
Nice Coupe. Keep the small bumpers and slam it. Gonna do a shaved bay, or just the VR swap?
BIGGU
soo those stock wheels, are those a descendant of the p-p-p-p-p-p-p-p-p-power book?

Clifford Automotive
Built VR6, got it out of a Passat, wiring harness and all. Little bit of conversions to make the MKII dash work, but it all paned out. This car hauls ass... I'd like to get my hands back on it, and know exactly where its at. http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u298/pimpjettay2k/n723569544_1636614_4013621.jpg
Aaron
At least we know for sure that ONE of us has Gearwrenches! I've already used them on the Corvette in a couple of tight spots. Worth every penny. Good to hear!!! Thought about this tonite...are you SURE you want to go VR6? I would think a 1.8T/5speed swap would maybe make more sense...moar power and tunability, better reliability...? No on the reliability, and yes on power, unless you do VR-T. The VR6's are either 172(12v) or 200(24v). A 1.8T from a GTI is 180, and over 200 chipped. I am not sold on the VR6, I have just been lusting after that sound for a long time. I googled engine weights, and it seems the VR6 is about 400 complete, and 1.8T is low 3s. A lot of people say that a big heavy engine in the front of these cars "ruins" them as an all around car. Haven't decided what I want to do with the car yet, so I am still open to everything. Might do a nice high compression, NA 16 valve or something. If I could find a 2.0T TSI from the 2008.5+ cars for less than 3k, I would LOVE to do that. My car moves pretty good for stock, and it weighs 3100lbs. I couldn't imagine even a stock 2.0T in a 2300lb car, let alone chipped. Who knows. I do know that my first steps will be to get the car running. It needs a good once over and probably a bucket full of parts, but it should be fun to get my hands dirty and get it running. After I get an idea of what the car is like 24 years old stock, I will have a better idea of where I want to take it. This is all pending funds, time and how F'd the car turns out to be. Not sure, either my parents or my grandmas until my house is ready at the end of May. Nice Coupe. Keep the small bumpers and slam it. Gonna do a shaved bay, or just the VR swap? I like both looks actually, and am prone to keep things stock on the exterior. I think I will just restore it as is, and make everything 1986 correct (minus running gear). No shaved bay, I want a minty driver, not a show car. soo those stock wheels, are those a descendant of the p-p-p-p-p-p-p-p-p-power book? realy nice man Thanks Built VR6, got it out of a Passat, wiring harness and all. FyrhzrdGT
Nice P-slot wheels. The red car has the rallye grille right? IIRC thats hard to find. Two caddys, not the diesel ones for like $1,200 per chance were they?
