Nice P-slot wheels. The red car has the rallye grille right? IIRC thats hard to find.

Two caddys, not the diesel ones for like $1,200 per chance were they?

Yeah, two deisels, 1100 I believe for the pair. I passed on them. Way too much rust for me.

I don't know much about the MK2's, but I have been combing vortex since this past sunday to catch up!!!!

The coupe has minor rust, and only 2 places where its more severe than surface rust.

Picking it up saturday, and will have good pics of all angles/problems.

I was about to go look at those caddys but don't want to deal with rust, thanks for the heads up.

I too don't know shit about vdubs, I got one because I think I can get some uber mpg out of the mk2 diesel but then realized I could make a pretty cool looking car in the process. I'll be following your build. I am parting two Jetta sedans right now so hit me up if you need anything.

Update: Went and picked it up with dad, and father in law. Used my in-laws Envoy XL V8 to tow the uhaul trailer, and it did great. Only took about 1.5 hours going 60mph.

Few things: key works in all locks except the broken trunk latch. As I originally thought, most of the rust is surface rust, and the dash board is in pretty good shape, just needs a good cleaning.

Should be working on it tomorrow.

Got the passenger side floor boards down to the metal. 2 big rust holes. Looks like all new floor boards are in order.

I have to take the drivers seat and rear seat out next to get at the rest of the car. Its coming along. Pics later this week.

  • 2 months later...

16V ABA turbo is the way to go (1.8T is not bad too)

big engines are worse on these because of how far forward of the front axle most of the engine weight is

My old jetta (MK3) would nosedive before I even thought of jumping on the brakes.

good luck, fellow dubber!
