Barbie Jeep!!!

Last month was my daughter's 2nd birthday. Getting gifts for loved ones is a difficult task for me, but after a little bit of thought I knew exactly what I wanted to get her: POWER WHEELS!!! Granted, I'm cheaper than anyone. I didn't have one growing up...why pay a chunk of cash for something she will probably use one year and that's it???

Armed with the Power of CR.com, I posted a "WTB" thread. Good ol' Kevin Clifford contacted me and said that he has a Barbie Jeep in storage that his daughter hasn't used in 5 years. He's not sure if it runs - will definitely need a new battery - but it's mine for the taking. WHATTA GUY! :)

It was dirty, the Barbie stickers all over the exterior were faded. The "Jammin' Jukebox" was gone. It was a solid Jeep, and the price was right (FREEEEEEEBIE! Zip, Zero, Nadaaaa!)

My google searching was showing the larger, 12V Power Wheels battery was going to be a pricey investment ($60+ for the battery, another $30 for the charger). However, I checked out Batteries Plus, and the location in Hilliard on Cemetary Road not only had it in stock, but the battery AND charger didn't cost me over $60 together! Gotta plug Batteries Plus...great store, great people! I'm going back for my cordless drill battery pack ($80-90 elsewhere...$35 there!!!)

Disassembled...

Washed out the dead bugs, old cobwebs. WD-40'd the electric motors and connections...

Scrub a scrub...

Of course, it couldn't be STOCK...so I stripped off all the exterior stickers and prepared to paint on stars, flowers, and her name of course! I cut out a stencil for stars and flower petals from a cereal box...used white spray paint...

My mother came in with some strings of plastic flowers. I used some serious glue to add them on the off-road lights, headlights, etc...

I used auto touch-up paint for delicate pinstriping starbursts, accents, etc...

Overall I think it turned out great! I was crunched for time with her birthday coming around the corner, but if I had more time I would've painted the whole body. However, my daughter LOVES her "jeep" and everytime she sees it in the garage next to my Corvette she wants to drag it out and take it for a spin!

Big thanks to Kevin Clifford for helping make my daughter a very happy little girl on her birthday!
