99FLHRCI
I vote #3 out of those options. The kitchen, dining and living area appear and probably would feel bigger despite the whole thing filling the same area. The angled area and 7' area with closet seem wasted/useless. kirks5oh
this is the way the garage looked when we moved in last april--the place was a mess, oil stains all over the floor and the walls/etc were all a complete mess. every outlet had to be changed out from being stained black. the floor was shot blasted, and professionally done like a factory floor. even after a year, there's not a mark on it. it wasn't cheap--$3/square foot. the ceiling in the back of the shop is 12' high, and in the center of the shop its 20'. the separate room in the back of the shop is where the compressor and all chemicals are stored. http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/9767/dsc00922gf.jpg http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/1175/dsc00923u.jpg http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/796/dsc00932hr.jpg http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/4223/dsc00907jf.jpg
kirks5oh
here are some shots with everything finished, before i got the lift. with the lift, the garage will fit 7 cars, still with plenty of room to watch tv in the recliner. garage is wired for speakers in all 4 corners. http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/1016/dsc01154yj.jpg http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/1534/dsc01133br.jpg http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/6039/dsc01159o.jpg http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/457/dsc01071ie.jpg here's the compressor in the back room--i still need to get it plumbed to the lift, but its plumbed to two retractable hose reels on the ceiling. the back room has shelving for storage, and access to the attic, which is fairly big--and is located above the 12' ceiling where the lift is located. http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/1306/dsc01150f.jpg the lift is a bendpak 4post lift--its the entry level 9000lb capacity storage lift--no reason for me to get anything fancier. with the 12' ceiling, i can lift any of my cars to the highest setting with room to spare. did an oil change on our explorer and had plenty of room to walk uner the car. http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/4963/dsc01297.jpg http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/3084/dsc01296sr.jpg if i could change anything about the garage it would be the following-- i'd add water, and a bathroom, especially if i start to do more work in the garage, and may do that this summer. with well water, it won't be easy. possibly make the door wider, or add a second door--doesn't bother me, but it would be easier not to have to angle the cars in as much. Looks great! I'd add a nice huge natural light source in the center or something along those lines too
Buck531
Kirk, posts like yours want to make me divorce my wife, leave my kids and find a place in the boonies to build something like that and just never see anyone again. Damn you.

kirks5oh
thanks guys. i wish i did more with the garage, but sadly i just don't have the time. looking to do some major work to my '85 in the next year, so hopefully i'll get a 'project' thread going. also going to put a catback on my buddy's S5 this week. other than that, the lift mainly gets used for oil changes. looking to get a projector and my satellite tv in there for next football season. GRN96WS6
Kirk that garage is sick...I hope to have one like that sooner than later. The only thing besides what you want to add that I would add is another lift that allows for easier tire rotations. Outside of that it is money. Who did you get to coat your floor? I am wanting to do mine in the spring.

I am wanting to do mine in the spring. the floor was coated by a company that basically does factory floors. i live in wisconsin, so you'll have to find a place in columbus. its roughly $3 per square foot, and they warranty it for 10 years of 'normal' usage, whatever that means. i don't have a scratch on it yet

Bobby Lee
I've had this same idea for quite some time now. Was very close to starting when the current girlfriend came around. Now she doesn't seem to want to leave. Made her promise me a garage like Kirk's though. She can have the house, as long as I get my man space. mrblunt
good luck finding a bank to approve the loan... we owned our land flat out and could not find a bank ANYWHERE that would finance us building our own house... we had to go with a custom builder because of this which costed us alot more money. My boss is building his own home and had a lot of issues getting his financing arranged. He ended up going through here - http://www.e-farmcredit.com/
106mm
My house is similar to yours. It's on 3 acres in the country with woods and lakes all around. The garage holds my XLT Suburban, a Town Car, two hotrods, 3 motorcycles, a motorcycle lift, tools, etc. There is an automotive lift on the left side. Just off the garage is a kitchen, bathroom, shower, laundry, living room and the door to the backyard/pool area. Upstairs are 3 bedrooms, another bath, huge living room with fireplace, kitchen, laundry and deck. I'm single, so it's just the rottweiler and me. It is perfect. I can hop on the dirt bike and go trail riding, hunt, ride the Hayabusa through the country roads, fish. It rocks. You will love that arrangement.
