When I used to manage a pet store in Cali, there was a bird shop that we used for our birds and I met the lady who owns the bird with a record vocab and it was a damn budgerigar (parakeet)! It was amazing how large this bird's vocab was. I believe it was over a 1000words and at times really seemed to know what it was saying as opposed to just randomly mimicing.
