Making a car theft resistant

Anyone have experience with this? Any good websites or information sources? My car is on many top stolen lists and in the near future I will be leaving it in Columbus in a parking lot in the evenings and am growing a little more paranoid. I am hoping to make it a little bit harder to take or at least make it take longer so something might be noticed.

Obviously a alarm system, but everyone ignores those. What about Lojack or something. I'd look at some sort of starter kill as well. What about a private lot?

honestly, if some one wants your car they are going to take it. They dont care if its running or not because they are going to part it out and cut it up. just get good insurance dont keep anything of value and just live your life....

Hence why I said slow them down. I know all it takes is a rollback and to tell anyone questioning that it is a repo. Insurance will not even think of covering all of the stuff put on/into the car. Plus the hassle of trying to get home late at night and getting to work the next day is not desired.

Put some gay porn magazines and used looking condoms on the front seat and dash. Get a little gross and put some dried blood on them too  Cover them up slightly so if someone actually gets in the car, they see it, say oh-shit and leave the mofo alone. Some fake puke on the back seat in plain site might help too. :)

Bolt all your shit down with special one way or locking bolts. I had right turn bolts going though the floor of my wife's Beretta when I put them amps under the seats. That will slow them down. Double sided razor blades in various grab points too. Who gives a shit if it's legal or not. I'll gladly sit in court across from a dude with sliced up hands. That's not going to happen anyway.

I you have a smart phone, just have Brady install the system with remote start like I have. It will ping your cell with an alert if the alarm goes off. At least then you'll know and can head down to the car.

On a serious note, how about a good alarm with a pager or that notifies you on your smart phone, like the vipers? I know they do remote start on phones, and I assume it does alarm notifications but am not 100% sure. That way if someone is fucking with your car you will be notified and can go 'talk' to them.

Edit: pdqgp beat me to it... kind of... his info wasn't there when I originally posted this. :)

It's probably a Honda... just let them have the damn thing and quit worrying about it.

It is a Honda. However it is MY Honda. To top it off, it is a hard to replace Honda that I have put MY time and MY money into. Why don't you just let someone have you VeeDub and quit worrying about it?

Alarm of course. But, and I just bought one, how about a car cover. I just bought a custome car cover for a couple hundred bucks. Along the bottom is a cabel with a lock.

Sure, you can cut the material the cover is made out of. Sure, you can cut the lock or cabel. But in doing so, now you have all this fabric to mess with and slow you down. Then you have to get past my car alarm. Set of the alarm and have a car cover sitting on the ground looks odd and should raise questions and is a pretty big frustration to a car theif. Harder to ID the car to see if they want it. And over all, if they want it, they will find a way to take it, as stated.

A remote fuel pump kill switch is also a good easy option.

It is not long term storage. It will be about 5 hours in the late evening at a time. It is pretty much like when anyone else would go to work. However, I would not have chose a car like this as my DD if I lived or worked in the area I will be parking in. I am working on relocating a couple of easy break in pieces on the car and adding to the factory alarm and some manual switches for fuel etc.

What about those proximity alarms that chirps if you walk past the damn thing. The idea here is that people don't want to be noticed, so if possible park in plain sight of a road or something and near a light pole. Combine that with an alarm and good insurance and hopefully you won't have a problem.

I'm with you on protecting what you have worked long and hard for....not all of us are made of money, nor do all of us dump every penny into our cars and not save for the future.

find an old cell phone with gps locating. hard wire an old charger somewhere in the car and turn the phone on keep it pluged in and hidden somewhere. if the car does get stolen the police could trace where it is and since it is a cell phone the battery should be good for a day or so.
