Nitrousbird
My current Netgear is pissing me off, and it is time to upgrade a bit. I just need something reliable, wireless N, and at least a 4 port gigabit switch. I don't need any USB file sharing/print sharing BS, I don't need any wireless security past wpa2. I'm not an online gamer, do some FTP stuff, and stream a lot of HD content via hardwire connection. Price is a factor. My current unit likes to stop accepting new wireless connections every 2-3 days unless it is power cycled and won't accept firmware updates. It is too cheap to worry about troubleshooting, so now is the time to upgrade. I need suggestions.
Fiji ST
I've got a D-Link that works pretty well. I can stand about 100 feet from my house and still get a signal.
unfunnyryan
Theres two Asus routers at microcenter, one $99.99 the other $64.99, both are rock solid. The linksys E2000 is also alright. If you like DD-WRT, Buffalo sells some routers with it preloaded. Any router cheaper than $50 is junk. edit: The $99.99 Asus can act as a bit torrent server, the lower priced one may be able to as well. Its built to handle that kind of traffic if you're into torrents.

sol740
Here's a cheap refurb linksys. http://www.buy.com/prod/cisco-linksys-e1000-wireless-n-router-cisco-linksys-certified/q/loc/101/listingid/115479948/217151869.html Can't personally vouch for it since it's a refurb, but I have had zero issues with my Linksys. Edit: Nevermind. Not gigabit. My bad ... move along.

TTQ B4U
but I have had zero issues with my Linksys. ^^ Here to say the same. Linksys for as long as I can remember with zero issues. My 4 port hardwire one from years back now serves my wife's office.

This is a FANTASTIC router, its the one I use personally, and can attest to its performance. It is one of the best on the market, and highly recommend it if you can spring the cash. However... Look into DD-WRT. Get any compatable router. Be happy. Don't use DD-WRT on a E3000. It will seem to run okay, but had lots of connection hangs when I had it installed. The stock firmware on the E3000 works much better.

My 4 port hardwire one from years back now serves my wife's office. I've had significant issues with linksys when it comes to Apple computers. Infact linksys used to not offer any support when it came to those over priced shitboxes. Had a $50 belkin a few months back. Worked like a charm until the piece of shit reset button broke off, rendering it useless. Probably would buy a higher-end Belkin again, granted it is DD-WRT compatible, and has a giant, easily accessible reset button.
Jizzle Juice
I have a netgear N150. 49 bucks. I've been using the E3000 with DD-WRT for about 3 months now, it only acts crazy if you don't do a full 30/30/30. But then again if you aren't doing a full 30/30/30 or even know what that is you probably shouldn't be using DD-WRT. I vote the E3000 with DD-WRT done properly, very easy to get what you want done, done. But also secure enough to keep the peckerwoods out Also I've been running it for about 2 months now without a reboot so when you actually install the firmware properly, it will function properly. Were you on brainslayer (or w/e it was) builds or something else? I had downloads that would suddenly drop out of no where, same goes with youtube playback, porn, etc.
Chadz89GTA
I have a Server in the basement of my house that's been DLing torrents for the past 2 months, *amazed comcast has been stable that long* and have not had ONE issue with it. When I log on to game or do thigns i remote connect turn the speeds down and go about my business and turn them back up. Only had one instance where I thought my router shit the bed but apparently the torrent I was downloading ran out of seeders that I checked with the log to find. Still going strong 2 months 2 days 4 hours and 10 mins of straight connectivity. Edit: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (07/28/10) is the exact build. Straight off the wiki that was for the E3000, and right dowm the How-To flash list. And to be honest after having flashed 4 WRT54G's and a few WRT54GL/GS's the E3000 was the easist to flash with nothing to kill and going straight from stock firmware to DD-WRT in a matter of 6 minutes. Edit #2: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (07/28/10) std-usb-ftp - build 14853M NEWD-2 K2.6 Eko is the exact firmware

Rally Pat
Any of the Cisco/Linksys routers are the way to go. The older ones had issues with going bad after about a year or so, like the first few versions of the WRT54G, but my latest one has been running about a year and half without a forced reboot. Not taking into account power outages, of course.
