Rustlestiltskin
I've been wanting a cheap miata for awhile now to just have fun with this summer and also just toss some budget build parts on it at the same time. I ended up picking up this Miata yesterday. 1990 Mazda Miata 5spd Laguna Blue http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj288/Dubs740/MiataPics018.jpg I bought it for a pretty good deal because its got some rust issues. Nothing crazy just normal uncared for japanese car rust. Its on the fenders and a little on the sideskirt. I wasn't too worried about it because I wasn't trying to make this anymore then just a fun cheap budget build car so no car shows for me lol. For this budget build i'll be looking all over the internet for used parts and what not. I'm gonna set this up mainly for road racing so I'm gonna be doing suspension work mostly along with a nice set of wheels. Then later on will come the performance parts unless I find good deals I cant pass up on. First time also ever driving a miata and I must say it was pretty fun as hell. These little ass 2000lb cars can move and especially fun out on the windy roads that I live on. First thing I had to do was tackle the cleaning aspect of the car first before I can even begin to do anything else. It seems like this car wasn't cleaned (interior/exterior wise) since it was bought in 1990. So since I had the day off I spent some time detailing it. First I washed the car. Then claybarred thed entire thing. First time ever using a claybar so It was sketchy but seemed to clean up the car. Next I put on a cleaner wax and then tackled the interior. after sucking up a shitload of debris I detailed it. I'm not the best at detailing but it came out alot better then what it originally looked like. Here are some pictures. You can only polish a turd soo much but its still a turd. Oh well, its my turd lol. pics taken with iphone. http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj288/Dubs740/MiataPics024.jpg http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj288/Dubs740/MiataPics034.jpg http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj288/Dubs740/MiataPics042.jpg http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj288/Dubs740/MiataPics038.jpg http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj288/Dubs740/MiataPics043.jpg In the next few weeks I'm going to be looking into finding some coilovers along with a rollbar. Then go into more suspension work like sway bars, polyurethane bushings, etc... I'm kinda a noob in the suspension world so if anybody has any pointers let me know. I've just been reading theads over miata.net like crazy trying to learn these little cars so i'm just a noob. Rustlestiltskin
Couple More http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj288/Dubs740/MiataPics039.jpg http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj288/Dubs740/MiataPics025.jpg http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj288/Dubs740/MiataPics028.jpg And I want to eventually have my car with a similar stance (minus the hardtop) to this one I previously seen in my Miata thread. http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj288/Dubs740/MiataPics014.png

Not Brian
Papa Smurf had a red hat, all the others had white ones, yours has a black one.
Tripleskate
My friend picked up a set of Tein Basics for his NB, and that made WORLDS of difference. Pick up a second hand set and profit. That and good tires. Edit: Other than the little cancer spots, that looks really clean.
Gergwheel1647545492
sweet looking car. How much did you get it for if you don't mind me asking.
PRD2BDF
You should repair the rust and paint with Line-X on the rockers and the lips of the fenders. Would make for a cool 2-tone look.

oh8sti
Those wheels in that pic look hot. I think Rota makes a similar looking set and they aren't horribly heavy eitherX

wagner
Subscribed, down the road I want to do something similar. I like going fast in a straight line, but this is a great way to cut some curves on a budget.

zeitgeist57
I'm lovin' the car. Rust is a little doo-doo around the quarter panels (no real way to fix without repaint) but definitely a great project. Good luck and looking forward to updates... This has been discussed on numerous times on many forums. Rota's are great wheels for the money and just like any other wheel if you run into a curb, they will bend/crack. Stop hatin!
