Starting off the week with a couple pics from our Sunday afternoon. Will be another light week for me online though as I've been so busy at work during the day and rarely able to have camera in hand it seems.

Rug Rats of the Pumpkin Patch

Canon EOS 40D & 24-70L f/2.8 with a need for more FEV, but it works.

Great Apple Season this Year.

The rain must have really helped as the trees were loaded, even after weeks of being picked over.

Went out yesterday and did a 3month old shoot of my best friend's family and their baby girl. Also a 'halloween' shoot. At this point in my photography I'm still learning every time I push the shutter button. For this shoot we were at the park at 1pm, which the light just burns everything and casts a horrible shadows but I used my built in flash to try and fill those in as best it could. Also I was shooting @ ~f2.2 to try and get some good bokeh but that was driving my shutter speeds beyond the limit of the camera and causing over exposure. Also my skies were blown out. Next time if I have to shoot with big apertures I need to slap on my variable density filter.

I wanted to shoot more but 1hr was about the limit for the little one.

comments welcome.

You have some really nice shots there my friend. Timing wise, here in the Midwest, the fall is great. Shoot either really early or late in the day. The angle of the sun really gives some nice warmth and if you can, invest in some reflectors, silver and gold and for ease of one person shooting, the stands too. I use them a lot on location.

In terms of fill flash, no need for ND or Graduated filter really. Just remember, aperture controls flash exposure and shutter speed controls available light. If it's too bright, switch to manual mode.

When shooting Manually, you have four things to consider: Aperture, ISO, the distance between your subject and light source and the power setting or FEV of your flash. Just set your aperture to your desired DOF, control the exposure with your FEV and ambient light with shutter speed.

I know they couldn't get the baby up and going before then, and I had other things planned for the afternoon and the rest of the week. We just had to make 1pm work :(. I had some reflectors from sunshades, but didn't use them.

Grabbed this one today from my extensive shot glass collection. I pick one up at every place I visit.

I should watermark my stuff now, just because it'll get someone worked up.

Yesterday I missed a beautiful sunset because I was washing and waxing the truck, getting it ready for winter. Then found out that I missed the aurora borealis last night too (this far south! I know!) FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUU....

So I went out this afternoon to the local park, no crazy expedition. Thought I would play around with HDR. The first HDR below was taken with my 35mm prime. I love this lens so much its constantly on my camera and I forget I have my new wide angle lens. So the second and third HDR were taken with the wide angle zoom :)

I'll post the HDR, and the link below it will be the 'best' I can do with a single exposure.

The HDR on this one, the tree looks a bit blurred because my camera doesn't have a feature where I can select different EV's for one shot. I have to physically switch the EV then take another shot. So the wind moving the leaves causes the blur..... Also the saturation might be a bit high.

Great shots man! Really liking what you've been posting, especially with the wide angle.

My only thoughts are that you might want to consider your f/stop and ISO. It shows f/11, when I would bet on the wide angle your sweet spot is around f/8. OPen it up a bit and drop the ISO Down a bit.

I was just going to say, put that on F8 and go to town.

Ive got a few from Today and last weekend. Got to get them up. Crazy shooting today at the convention center for a Cheer Competition. All day affair.

Thanks guys. That came pretty evident yesterday too. This shot below is at F11 and i see what you are talking about. Pretty surprised I didn't get any flare from the sun in the right of the frame. Too bad I really liked this shot/angle wish it would have turned out better.

live and learn.

Also, Broke my cheap travel crappy tripod. I have the benro 'on order' for my Chrisnukah gift from the GF. So I'll just lug my heavy Manfrotto for the next few weeks. A peice broke off the part that controls the tilt while tightening it, and the camera fell forward hitting the lens body on the tripod. Definitely not a huge deal and no damage was done (not that I thought it would have). But everyone always makes fun of me because I usually choose to keep my neck strap on while the camera is on the tripod, in case the tripod fails or you kick it or don't tighten a leg or something.
