copperhead
Just curious as to what everyone runs. Trying to decide if synthetic is worth it for my 250,000 mile beater, or just get whatever is cheapest
Aaron
Synthetic every 5k. For a beater, cheapest I can find.
SpaceGhost
Per Subaru, Synthetic (Red Line) every 7500 miles.
RS69
Synthetic every 5k. For a beater, cheapest I can find. For that beater, I would use whatever that has been put in it. Changing now , may cause issues. Edited November 26, 2011 by RS69
BIGGU
Shell Rotella T for all my cars. 5w40..
AudiOn19s
Synthetic always. That's likely a contributing factor to my beater getting to 200k in the first place.
macpyro2
For that beater, I would use whatever that has ben put in it. Changing now , may cause issues. this

Murse
I run amsoil in the del sol, I know that's overkill, but that's what she's always had. If its a beater thats been running reg oil then keep that in her. Also confused as to the poll, it it what we run or are you asking for opinion as to what you should run? I voted synthetic since I took it as "what do you run?"
copperhead
For that beater, I would use whatever that has ben put in it. Changing now , may cause issues. I don't know what's been used in it, I've only had it long enough to be on my second change

AWW$HEEET
Zee germans. Anyone know a good alternative to 10w30 for my jeep? Feel like it needs somethin heavier for high milage.
gillbot
Synthetic every 5k. For a beater, cheapest I can find. this I even save the used synthetic from my camaro for my beater. :lolguy:
frenchy chan
this I even save the used synthetic from my camaro for my beater. :lolguy: We've done this, too...but we use redline in our dd's...so getting "used" redline is probably good for a beater, lol
TTQ B4U
I wouldnt likely switch to synthetic in a neon with 250k on it. In our cars we use Dino oil and change it between 5-7k. Never had an issues.
Buckeye1647545503
Mike that neon will most likely leak all over if you switch now plus ...well it is a neon. Put zone brand oil in it and a napa gold filter and roll on. Now your baby / sports car etc then yes 100% for amsoil/ royal purple
Cordell
I use Mobil 1 full synthetic 5w-30 in our Cobalt and Silverado, it really isn't very expensive when you can get 5 quart jugs for under $30 if you watch for it. We bought these cars new and intend to keep them for an extended time so I feel its worth it. I use the oil monitors in them and change the oil at 30-40%, this is pretty close to 5k and 4 months of our driving. When we bought the Camaro I ran Mobil 1 in it too and when the original engine blew up (nitrous issue) the inside looked new so I was really sold on it then. After the break in of the new engine I've been using Royal Purple 10w-40 since the bearing clearances are slightly larger. For my older vehicles I've always used a factory recommended viscosity and used a high mileage oil because of it being semi-synthetic. I'm sold on it. It only costs a few extra bucks and I get piece of mind. I've done thousands of oil changes over the years of working as a tech and my oil almost always looks better coming out then the cars I work on. I know the majority of cars I see at work use dino oil and don't get their oil changed as religiously as mine, but most come out with the consistancy of water. My cars always just looks like dirty oil, I just don't think it breaks down as fast. Not saying this is any scientific proof, but its enough for me to spend the extra few bucks.
