The 19-year-old was driving with his girlfriend, Donay Meijer, in his orange BMW when he was pulled over for "showing off" in a restaurant district. Details are sketchy on what happened next, but published reports suggest that a forsenic policeman tried to pull over Tomic again a few hours later, but the Wimbledon semifinalist kept driving until he was parked behind the gates at his house. The Herald Sun reports five policeman were waiting for Tomic, who then refused to exit the premises. "I don't know what's wrong," he later told reporters. "It's like I killed somebody." An inspector told the Courier Mail that Tomic was "reasonable and understandable" during the process and that he couldn't determine whether the tickets were deserved. John Tomic, Bernard's father, reportedly had an angry discussion with a policeman on his driveway. He later defended his son's version of events and filed a complaint against authorities. Tomic and his $150,000 car are familiar to Gold Coast police. He was accused of hooning (the Australian term for drag racing) in December. Because of his P-plate restrictions, Tomic is only allowed to drive to and from practice. Thursday was a national holiday in Australia and Tomic said he wanted to spend it hanging out with a friend. Whatever the story, Tomic is not the first 19-year-old to have a problem with immaturity. Even if he's a victim in each of these circumstances, the frequency is troubling and doesn't bode well for a burgeoning athlete on his way to becoming the most popular athlete in his country. The incident came hours after Tomic was named to the country's Davis Cup team. In making the announcement, captain Pat Rafter praised the teen's maturity. Pretty nice ride. Since when are M3's $150K?
