More new pics experimenting with the new camera and hobby!

Recommended Posts

Like the other thread, have at it! I'm just starting to learn all of this, so any tips are greatly appreciated.

Went to Highbanks yesterday to test out the knee for our Hawaii which is just a week away! Found some cool wood.

Woke up this morning and cooked some hash; sweet potatoes, carrots, eggs, sweet peppers and sausage. Threw some cheese and hot sauce on it. :megusta:

Then we went to Hayden falls this afternoon and I played around with some manual settings. Not the best pic in the world, hate that all of the little trees are in the way, just experimenting with shutter speed.

So what are your initial thoughts and impressions so far?

I'm having a lot of fun learning everything... I think I will have more fun once I really know how to use this and can take the picture that I'm imagining.

Both in terms of Image Quality and handling?

I'm relatively pleased with IQ, again I think I will be happier once I really know how to use this thing to it's fullest capabilities and can take the pictures I want. It is, from what I can tell, worlds better than any point-and-shoot, so I am happy with that. I think I want the lens to be able to do things that it can't, but it's just a kit lens so I'm probably expecting too much. Olympus makes a 45mm (so 90 effective) f/1.8 that people seem to be really happy with that doesn't break the bank. I should probably learn how to use this camera/lens more before I worry about that!

Handling, as you can see from my other thread and PM that this camera (Olympus Pen mini E-PM1) is hampered by it's small size. There aren't a ton of buttons, so things are hard to find and not necessarily intuitive. It's just a matter of learning how to get to everything. I knew this was a downside going into it, and I wanted the small size.

Next time we are at C&C, you should play with it, especially since it sounded like you might be considering one. There are rumors that Cannon is going to get into micro 4/3, or something similar. IDK if this helps you being a cannon guy, as the lenses will probably be different anyways.

After getting out for the past couple days, any areas you might still have some questions about?

I don't think so yet, I just need to play around with it and figure things out. You gave me a ton of info yesterday, thanks for giving me a class on photography! :fuckyeah: I think in between that and just understanding how to operate this camera, I have my hands full for a little while.

Hawaii will certainly help by offering you plenty of opportunity. I'm jelly.
