jeffro
How exactly does a bee keeper "get em all" and make them move? Theyre all bunched up. Knock them off into box, close it up and transfer them into a hive box.

Putty
Theyre all bunched up. Knock them off into box, close it up and transfer them into a hive box. I can see that for this situation, but the other pics where they are in a tree hole?
zeitgeist57
How exactly does a bee keeper "get em all" and make them move? The beekeeper uses a smoke device to calm the bees down, then tries to find the queen (noticibly larger than the other bees). Once the queen is captured in a box, the other bees will immediately follow the pheromone scent into the box as well. You don't need to save every bee...as long as the queen is alive, the hive/swarm will follow.
jeffro
I can see that for this situation, but the other pics where they are in a tree hole? Smoke em. Take cedar chips, put them in this tin can thing and get it burning, blow the smoke into the hole. Its like a sedative for the bees. Proceed with extracting via hand or cutting tree open. The guy i work with recently had to extract a hive from inside the walls of someones house.

mrs.cos
Bee's are really cool when you start to read about them.
Brrcats
Yeah, apparently it's some big mystery as to why they are dwindling in numbers and it could have major ecological consequences if they die off completely. Some scientists are saying it's more than "Where's my f-ing honey", more like "Why are there no more plants?". Personally I say f bees but I guess as long as they keep playing their part in pollination they can live. http://i789.photobucket.com/albums/yy180/adkc/Gladiator.gif this, i was watching a documentary on the dissapearance of bees the other day. (yes super dork) apparently a large portion of crops are pollinated by commercial honey bee operations. so no more bees = crop shortage = high food prices, and eventually no food but bacon .....wait a second :masturboy:

TTQ B4U
Smoke em. Take cedar chips, put them in this tin can thing and get it burning, blow the smoke into the hole. Its like a sedative for the bees. Proceed with extracting via hand or cutting tree open. The guy i work with recently had to extract a hive from inside the walls of someones house. No way; not me. Not worth the risk. Just call someone else to do it. Last thing I want to do is try and smoke bees out of a hole and try to remove a hive. No fucking way. TTQ B4U
http://www.dangerkittyfashions.com/images/uploads/JValentine/JV-571.jpg Now that's the kind of bee I would blow smoke in a hole for and extract me a bunch of honey.

oh8sti
Here are some pics of Tom (Jeffro's boss). He came out when he heard how big the hive was. He estimates the total # of bees somewhere around 20,000. It was kind of chilly, and the bees i guess just stay lumped up in a ball and fall into the box. I never would have thought they'd do that. I thought they'd go nuts. The hive was much smaller this morning i assume because of the weather being colder. http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu130/oh8ti/IMG_3934.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu130/oh8ti/IMG_3935.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu130/oh8ti/IMG_3943.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu130/oh8ti/IMG_3952.jpg and as mentioned earlier....my female friend in a bee costume...... http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu130/oh8ti/c99cfa00.jpg?t=1320115498 http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu130/oh8ti/f293b5cd-1-1.jpg
