Doc1647545523
someone's rustling downstairs brb grabbing $300k shotgun Until their attorney uses the "$300,000 murder-gun" defense. :dumb: :gtfo:Don't exaggerate--the price was only $295,000, and that's for the pair. lol "thank you sir for giving me the honor of being shot by that wonderful piece... gurgle cough gergle die" That's a gun best used for shooting driven fowl, and should be handed to you by a gamekeeper. I can't imagine shooting an intruder with such an elegant weapon .... although it might be appropriate to shoot a king with such a gun. Even if I was a billionaire I wouldn't own these, although they are more works of art than guns Well, if I were a billionaire, I'd want one. And I'd use it. Although you're right, it's a work of art. Made by some of the world's best gunsmiths and engraved Bulino style -- so sublime, magical. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/22812-22813-9T.jpg
twistedfocus1647545489
Go handle a couple shotguns, Brian. The ones listed in this thread will suit you fine, whichever way you decide to go. That being said, I'm going to throw out a random suggestion; get a Stoeger Coach Gun. This suits the "daughter's boyfriend" role perfectly. Scotty2Hotty
I love my 870, but I have a soft spot for this bad boy, due to the sheer badassery of it: http://cdn.armslist.com/images/posts/634566174760846518b4qtvu0i.jpg If the bayonet doesn't get his attention, load up the mag tube. Mojoe
Brian, Im a bit picky about my fire arms and I was looking for similar use. Everytime, it came down to 870 or 500. Some say this, others say that. I found nothing to really point me away from one over the other. I picked up a 500 for $265 from a dealer and have had no issues with it. It's simple. If I have to use it to defend the home, it's going to be confiscated anyways, so why go all out. It works all the time and is a throw away gun if need be. copperhead
Im starting to look for my next purchase and am new to shotguns. Thoughts on this http://www.impactguns.com/mossberg-500-special-purpose-12ga-185in-6-shot-includes-pistol-grip-kit-50411-015813504119.aspx Primary use will be target practice, home protection, and scaring my daughters boyfriends. I had that exact same gun, felt cheap and crappy with a terrible trigger. It sat behind my bedroom door for a couple years until I sold it off cheap so I could buy something I could actually use (an 870). So depending on budget either get an 870 or move up into a Benelli SuperNova or better.

It's the Small Block Chevy of shotguns, maybe guns in general. You'll never have trouble finding parts for it and they are dead reliable anyway. Furloaf
870 vs. 500 is how this usually goes. I think you just need to hold one of each and find out which you like better. I went with an 870 because of the safety location. Shooting thousands of BBs growing up with a trigger guard mounted safety caused me to think the Mossberg's receiver top mounted safety was very awkward. The beauty in my shotgun is that I can beat the living hell out of it and it will still kill a bull moose with a 26" erection. That gun just looks like a silver smith got carried away with some peyote. You'll never have trouble finding parts for it and they are dead reliable anyway. If you ever need replacement parts for an 870 I'd like to know what make and model of bulldozer was used on the gun.

Brian, you're welcome to borrow mine if you want to try it out on the range (Blackwing is just 3 miles from the hangout) or take it for a week or two if you want to shoot with friends elsewhere. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/shotguns/870full.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/shotguns/intruderwelcomingcommittee.jpg

87GT
I've owned an 870 and a 500 12g and 20g. They feel the same to me. They always work even if you don't clean that often. Everyone should have at least of them next to the bed.

twistedfocus1647545489
Its official, I love you. Ill be in touch before my next trip to blackwing for sure!!! Reminder: Most indoor ranges require either buckshot or slugs to work with their bullet traps. So, if you're rolling in with boss loads like Doc has in the pic you're fine but don't grab a 100 pack of #6 shot on the way to save money because they'll tell you to f off. :fuuuu:

It gives you some neat features - folding stock with unique hook that wraps around your forearm for extra security or one handed shooting (if you're as strong as the Terminator!), and a button to switch from semi-auto to pump action. This is a great feature for using specialty shells that won't cycle a semi-auto shotgun.
