Rocky31186
Here are some random backyard shots. And a couple downtown shots from tonight. I've been trying to keep an eye on the birds nest in my backyard. But they dont like when you get close.. So I have to use my 200mm lens to get close. http://i477.photobucket.com/albums/rr133/probin007/may20121.jpg http://i477.photobucket.com/albums/rr133/probin007/may20122.jpg http://i477.photobucket.com/albums/rr133/probin007/may20123.jpg http://i477.photobucket.com/albums/rr133/probin007/may20124.jpg http://i477.photobucket.com/albums/rr133/probin007/may20125.jpg http://i477.photobucket.com/albums/rr133/probin007/bird.jpg http://i477.photobucket.com/albums/rr133/probin007/bird2.jpg
Tractor
I really like the first 3 and the 5th one is awesome. Bird shots are always cool too.
ImUrOBGYN
I like #1 but I wonder if it would look better without some of that dirt and gravel berm foreground. 4 is pretty cool, too. 5 seems so simple but something about the way it's lit and disappears into the distance is kinda surreal. I feel like if you colored it up with some "arcadey" type lighting I could kart down it dodging bananas or some shit. I took some some nest shots of house finches over the course of a couple weeks ending just last week. They were right outside my back door just above eye level. I missed a few days, though and then missed when the damn things flew, too. Oh, well. I did get to witness the Robin's in the back of my yard fly the nest with parents on watch a couple days ago. Was standing right beside one but had no camera. Anyway, they're just crappy phone pics but they are right up close. Maybe, I'll post them later in another thread. Rocky31186
I cropped some of the gravel out, and shaded it in some.. http://i477.photobucket.com/albums/rr133/probin007/may2012edit.jpg And I forgot I had a picture of one of the baby birds.. Only one is in there, so Im guessing the others died? I keep an eye on them, as I dont want him to jump out of the nest and have my dogs eat him. The nest is only 3' off the ground, so I was worried from day one my dogs would smell them. Ugly MOFO.. http://i477.photobucket.com/albums/rr133/probin007/may2012.jpg
Tractor
Personally I like the gravel and sidewalk. It leads you into the scene, though I'd try to clean up the debris on the sidewalk a bit. The buildings are a little soft or it would be perfect as a large wall print. The only other thing that might make it better would be an earlier dusk shot where you still have color in the sky. Rocky31186
I'm not sure how to make the buildings more crisp. I tried focusing on the buildings, but it seems they always come out like this. I did print off a 18x30 picture of the last time I went downtown and it turned out good. But buildings were still not crisp.
Rocky31186
Some more from today, last minute went to the Westerville Field Of Hero's. I showed up late, as they were already taking down the flags. But this year I read there were over 2500 full size flags, on 8' poles. There were still probably 1000 when I was there. Very cool to be in the middle of that many flags. http://i477.photobucket.com/albums/rr133/probin007/mayflags.jpg http://i477.photobucket.com/albums/rr133/probin007/mayflags2.jpg http://i477.photobucket.com/albums/rr133/probin007/mayflags5.jpg http://i477.photobucket.com/albums/rr133/probin007/mayflags7.jpg
Rocky31186
A couple more from tonight.. Same spot, with sunset. Let me know what you think I can improve on. http://i477.photobucket.com/albums/rr133/probin007/maydowntown1.jpg http://i477.photobucket.com/albums/rr133/probin007/maydowntown2.jpg http://i477.photobucket.com/albums/rr133/probin007/maydowntown3.jpg
Rocky31186
My pup bella, 7 months and 50pounds.. Tractor
I like the new ones. I forgot to get back on here to explain landscape focusing a little. In a scene such as columbus skyline, it's good to try F/8 or higher number to get sharp deep DoF. Also you should focus on something between 1/3 &1/2 way to your most distant subject. TTQ B4U
Your shots of downtown are excellent. Nice job! As noted above, shoot F8 as that's likely the sweet spot of your lens. I wouldn't go much above that. It's not a DOF thing as in distance shots like that DOF is deep already, it's more a sweet spot within the lens. Seems I have a hard time judging with my display which f/ to use.. So I try to play around with each shot and use a variety. http://i477.photobucket.com/albums/rr133/probin007/MAYDOWNTOWN4.jpg

Take advantage of it if you can. Here's an example of it in use in a studio: http://www.examedia.nl/x01/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/live_view.jpg this way you can set the shutter and aperture and see what happens to your exposure. In this shot (just an example) it's set at 1/60th f/5.6 with an ISO of 1250. Now you can go in adjust and see the changes live. Watch me at C&C sometime. You'll see I use it a lot. I do it there for a number of reasons including that I tend to shoot low. The other is for instant viewing of the settings and scene. Just a thought.
