VW gone, LS6 240sx is in. Panty dropping like Magic Mike!

So as most of you know I originally had a VW GTI. It had a 35r and at the time was fast. Most people did not understand it and for its time it was good. However time changes everything Iand the way I look at the car I want to be in and what I want to use it for.

So almost a year a go I bought this. My buddy Brandon was selling it and I quickly sold the VW and bought this in literally 2 days.

Put her in the garage and told myself to start getting parts.

http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/320709_10150359273615598_787156914_n.jpg

Car came as a roller only thing in the car before I got it was a Battery box, 300z brakes, new willwood master cylinder, welded stitched re-sprayed engine bay and a Walbro Fuel Pump.

Parts that came with it was, LS? Block with all accessories, Intake manifold, 48lb injectors, Sikky 1st gen LSX swap kit including Mounts, Drive shaft and Trans brace and one missing coil =)

Here is some build pics and info.

Now this is my first car I have ever built. Im not good at wiring and Im hella scared to work on anything internally in a car but after this and the patience I thought I never had anything is possible.

I dont know shit about JDM cars or the following they have but its expensive to say the least. I wanted to find some cheap clear new looking headlights for my car on EBAY so I jumped on and found out everyone wants an arm and a leg for some new ones or over $300's. I opted for a $10 3m refinishing kit from autozone...

Then collecting parts started.....

http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/423455_10150575200310598_1235976289_n.jpg

There was another table on the other side of the garage with just as many parts....

Brandon from IPS who I bought the car from helped me get some of Sikkys inch and 7/s headers for the car also.

Thats it for now need to upload some more pictars....

So this is where the car sat for a couple months abd then I hauled it over to MooreSpeed and performance that my good friend Jon Moore owns and with the help of him we dropped in the motor trans and drive shaft and long tubes in less than a couple hrs. Pretty straight forward a tight fit but no major issues.

It was such a tight fit at first I was a little scared perhaps we got the wrng mount kit, but with a little help from some big crow bars she fit like a glove.

After all said and done this is how she sat until I got moved into my new place, broke off my wedding plans with my fiance and started to work a shit ton for summer landscaping season. A couple months later my buddy told me I could use his barn to finish my 240 at my own pace. So I took it to his place and I moved all my tools there and learned the hardest thing was motivation to keep going. Couple good friends stopped by to help but most of it was me by myself searching the internet and fucking shit up.

Interior is really nice, everything is stock except for the CD player wich I lost the face for but that will get fixed here soon. I like the interior cause its all black and cloth. Car only has 80K miles on it and has hd 2 owners that kept it uber clean.http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/549688_10150934895580598_1465954632_n.jpg

Now to tell you the truth this is literally the first car I have ever built from the ground up.

I have limited amount of knowledge and less experience. I second guessed myself on everything and went above and beyond on everything I did. Most of it was wasted time but to me I think I did an alright job in the process so if you see anything you don't like or I could improve, tell me don't be a pussy. I did this to learn.

Now onto the radiator.

I was originally gonna have a one off made but my buddy Jon was real busy at his shop so I did some searching of my own. Allot of guys get a Mishimoto radiator and spend 800 dollars on a CTS-V accessories for the front section of there motors to add space inbetween the radiator/fan setup and the motor.

I said fuck that called up Brandon at IPS and he got me a sick Mishimoto Fan/Rad setup, Complete with a sey of Mishimito slim fans the setup was pretty nice, I think its a triple or double pass radiator. I guess this is the one they use in road racing cars.

Classic Hurst Shifter knob

Looks OEM :dumb:

http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/528896_10150934898285598_2093689850_n.jpg

Fuel Setup. Now originally I thouhgt I needed to get a whole crazy big fuel system to make crazy power. I was wrong, Stock fuel rails on a LS car can make big power, Jon Linn off here ran them forever with no issues and well I came to the outcome that is what I shall do, No need to spend 1k in a car that wont need it for another year might as well put that money twards wheels and tires. Witch I did.

Here is a Corvette fuel pump regulator Filter. allot of LS guys get these with AN fittings on them to run braided lines to there fuel tank but here is what I did.

http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/406229_10150934898010598_776938391_n.jpg

It has a Feed, Return and out. I built my own Push lock AN system to the fuel lines on the stock car and too the fuel line on the LS motor. You can buy theses pre made with quick disconnects already on the but i saved some money and built one with jegs quick disconnect fittings.

I will have to take a better picture but this is where I mounted the fuel setup. top left of the engine bay behind the strut tower.

http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/425132_10150934898495598_1895422785_n.jpg

So remember how I said I was gonna spend the money I saved on wheels and tire....

Well thats exactly what I did.

http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc6/182181_10150925141180598_2038633479_n.jpg

Ive been wanting a set of there wheels for so long I finally got chance ans i went and got some. Now before you say they are not the real thing you can go fuck yourself cause I don't give a fuck if the real things weigh ten pounds lighter and cost $400 more I picked these up at Jegs for 110a piece and they are just knock offs of the real deal. I am in love with them.

http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/315445_10150934898885598_213271527_n.jpg

http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc6/603457_10150934898835598_1946279778_n.jpg

I got some Nitto 555r's So I can do some traveling with them, They are 275x50x15 = 27x10.5x15 Car could fit a true 28x10.5 tire with the offset it has now but the front skinnies will not clear the brakes. So when I have to bump out the front the rear is going with and getting the fenders rolled. Car will see the track but it will see the road more often. Before you ask yes Im getting some 15x4's up front and will drive all around on them. They will not fit the front of the car so i will have to get 1inch bolt on spacers... Not something I wanna do but I want these wheels and no others.

Next up is the Trans setup, T-56 stock. onlyu mod I had to to is when it was out of the car was unbolt the stock bleeder line from the slave cylinder and run a braided line out of the trans to be able to bleed it under the 240. the reason why I would do this is cause the clearance is so close you cant get a wrench up there to do so. We left the stock feed line to the trans in the car. In a min Ill tell you that was a bad call on my part.

The external bleeder is the line laying off to the left of the trans half way down it.

http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/531433_10150934893590598_653490576_n.jpg

Now here is where I fucked myself and wasted 3 days of mind fucking myself.

The stock hard line feed out of the trans has a GM quick disconnect on it. I had not noticed it and thought I could just buy a fitting and be done with it. Only one place makes an aftermarket fitting to hook up a braided line to it and call it a day. I called them witch I will not mention names and they said I had to buy a whole slave cylinder kit for $456. I told them my situation how the motor was in the car and I would love to buy there kit next year but I only need the one part, offered them a 100bux for 5 dollar part and they said no. Owner got on the phone and told me they only make enough for the kits they sell. I said ok and said look Ill buy it off you for 200 bux just the one fitting and you guys can resale the kit without it make a killer profit to someone who doesn't even need the fitting witch most don't. Guy still said no so I thanked them for there time. Hung up the phone lit a cig and said and I quote "FUCK!!!!!!!!!!

The culprit,

http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc7/295340_10150934898210598_1230448253_n.jpg

So I call Antwon off the board and he stops out looks at it and says " dude looks like a brake line fitting" I said no fucking way its prolly some off size steel hard line and nothing fits it.

I said, "I'll saw off the end and we can go see at jegs"

So if this does not work it means I would have to pull the motor and trans.... Fuck it, Live life on the edge.

So we went to Jegs and found a AN fitting to NPT. We took a compression brake line fitting put that on the end of the hard feed line to the slave hooked it to the master and low and behold it worked. I had been pumping the shit out of the clutch and its not leaking inside or outside. I have not read anywhere where anyone has done this but Its pretty trick if anyone else was to run into a problem like this.

http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/524144_10150934899140598_362138561_n.jpg

Shitty picture but you can see where is come out of the trans and the compression fitting we put on there. Now before anyone yells death. this clutch system prolly only needs a couple hundred psi in the lines, these compression fitting go on brake lines with 1000,s of lbs of pressure. I was a little sketched but after I read up on how they work and what type of pressure my clutch needed in the line I was ok with this setuo till I pull the motor this winter.

Bottom is the bleeder and top is feed, Feed is attached to a new willwood master cylinder due to the stock nissan not having enough balls to harness the awesomeness of a T56...

The Wiring,

I chose not to use the Nissan harness and mate it to a stock LS car harness.

Gotta pin everything out strip Uit down delete everything and I really dont have patience for it..

Plus I didnt want to cut a wire have a problem with the ECU or something i ripped out I should not have, Not to mention the car is quite old, so I got a stand alone harness from this guy.

http://psiconversion.com/

Guy does this in his garage after work with friends. They have the best customer service hands down out of any interaction I have had with any business. NO JOKE. Emails answered and late night phone calls from them to make sure I had any and all questions answered. Even via text, 5 Stars

Here is how it came.

Comes with only 9 open leads, Back up light, Power to ECU, Starter signal, 2 fan signals "owner supplied relays, Fuel Pump lead, tach, MIL light and speedo.

Only thing I did not do is ask to have the maf deleted and it came with a LS6 Maf /iat sensor hookup for a Maf with that in it. I cut out the maf and ran a GM Iat sensor from the wires I cut and had peanut from IPS weld a bung on the intake and bolted it right in. Car will be a speed density on 93. Was gonna go and use E85 but after Talking to Eric from IPS at the HP level Ill be making it will only gain me about 6-12 whp. Also E85 octane changes in the winter. Plus not having E85 everywhere and this being a car I want to travel in this will be the better in the 2 until I get bored and decide to spray this fucker too the moon.

Here are some pictures of the Relays, OBD2 and fuse box it comes with.

Wiring harness fits pretty good a little tight in some areas however they did a good job not knowing where or what there wiring systems will go into but in all from what I seen if I can understand it anyone can.

I can wire a whole house for you and do light commercial electrical work but car wiring I just could not grasp. However with the help from Brian S here on the board he broke it down for me and came and helped after he got off work for 3 days in a row, havnt talked to him in 4 yrs he saw i was having some problems with the wiring diagram and relays and showed up at the barn for 3 days after working his regular job at Midas. Now thats a true fucking friend only to make sure I understood how it works and why, also Eric From IPS had to break it down for me about relays and I now understand the concept of a relay and grounding. Thanks guys.

My wiring fun, If I could do it all over again it would be easy but up until right before this i was a scared bitch.

http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/531260_10150934898775598_1248263288_n.jpg

Mentally and physically this was one of the last major steps and I stayed up for 3 days literally 2 of them went to jegs as soon as they opened to get this taken care of cause I did not want it to defeat me on top of going to work in the past week of 100+ heat.

Barn has no AC and one door. It was hot as fuck but nothing some determination and Monsters cant fix.

Only thing I did was add another separate fuse box to the existing one on the car only cause I wanted to keep the OEM harness and fuses completely separate and the stand alone by itself. I could have used open spots in the fuse box and relays I was not using but I have plans to get the AC in this thing and the wipers working later this summer before fall.

The ECU will be in the glove box but its temporarily sitting in the passenger floor so if ir anything needs changed on the dyno they can access it easily.

Wiring is done only thing I could have fucked up is the fans but Ill find that out when they go to tun them on when they dyno it.

So after all the wiring was done I could fire it up so I started to tuck the wires zip tie heat shield everything and I did this.

Out of everything I did this is the only thing I broke while putting this whole project together. its the Oil pressure sensor that sits behind the intake manifold. My hand slipped and i knuckle punched it like ALI....

So since I dont need one right now "I'll tell u in a bit why" I took the diaphram out of the lower bolt cleaned out all the plastic, drilled and tapped a hole in the center of it and threaded a bolt in there with some silicone and deleted it. went and ordered a new one. Its on its way.

Gauges,

Only aftermarket gauges I will have for a little while will be The stock cluster witch will only tell me the Gas level and that is it. Here is what I have that will work even better than those.

Got this off Ebay for $60.01

And I picked up one of these.

http://i52.tinypic.com/2njdkqw.jpg

It reads anything the ECU reads, I mean EVERYTHING, Scott Wagner on here with the LS1 S13 has one and I liked it allot. Showed the guys at IPS and they were impressed. Can read DTC's and clear them. Has a warning chime and beep for any value that it shows you and its a simple interface with three buttons. Well spent $68.

Here is there link, car and driver loves this thing and it has won lots of awards. http://www.ultra-gauge.com/ultragauge/index.htm

Later this year I will be making a Gauge cluster with a Speedo, turn signals, tach fuel level in the OEM dash. On the A Pillar will be fuel pressure, Oil pressure and water.

So now that everything was all done I needed to start it.

It was the middle of the day on day 2 with no sleep and I was already frustrated due to this bad bitch taking more money out of my wallet than a stripper at Kahoots on a sat night. I was ready to turn the key.

It was hot and I was so excited I busted out my camera, Brian my buddy was there who helped with the wiring said what are you doing. I said,Mother fucker Im about to fire this up on my first try like a fucking boss I know I am. He told me no way chief, no one does that its bad luck. I agreed and I set the camera down still recording:fa:

I jump in I turn the the key as if I was chuck foose and low and behold the mother fucker doesnt start..........................

FML...

I sat my head on the steering wheel and asked my self if I was so retarded or just tired that I hooked up a wire wrong. We tried several more times. Nothing it didnt fire or have spark.

We went over every thing every connection and did it a third time. Nothing Brian left so he could sleep and get up for work and come back tomorrow. I git out of the car and shook his hand told him no big deal its all good.

What did I do I went back to the basics. Read the entire manual and saw I did not have one of the suggested grounds hooked up, the required was battery to chassis, battery to engine, chassis to engine ecu to chassis. I did not have the chassis to engine attached I forgot. I went to auto-zone grabbed some terminals and made one. Also saw my crank sensor was not completely bolted down all the way.

Ill never forget what comes next. I posted one day on here a couple years ago how I put my own trans in my vw on jack stands and anyone who has done one like i did would know its nearly impossible with out two sets of hands. well I did it and it was a man moment.

Here is another man moment of my life.

Its 3:58am I set the car on the ground cleaned up the shop told myself if it starts Im sleeping in that driver seat like Dale Earnhart prolly did cause he was such a badass or Im going home and posting on facebook Im such a failure to E cry.

Cleaned up the shop put all my tools away and gave myself one more kick in the ass to get in there and prolly get my dreams crushed cause I fucked up the wiring.

I got in the car told my great aunt to pull a favor from god that this thing starts and I turn the key like it was made out of diamonds. As I was turning the key all I could think about was doing a huge smokey burnout in the barn like a true redneck and then proceed to jegs to grab a foot print gas pedal and drive off into the sunset.... The key hit the acc and everything turned on like it should. Fire works started going off in my head money started falling from the sky and I thought for sure it would fire over.

It hit the start position cranked over and nothing......... FUCK I screamed.

But I could smell burnt gas maybe it was just being stubborn?..

So I said fuck it one more time.

I cranked it like I did not care cause it was not gonna start.

Son of a bitch! She fucking cranked over and ran for 5 seconds like it should since VATS was still on the ECU. Took a picture right after it happened...

http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/534942_10150928152355598_938709474_n.jpg

I shit you not It was like a symphony of cylinders screaming. This song started playing

and money started falling out of the sky, bitches in bikinis started to come from every corner of the garage and me and biggie smallz were in my car with two hot bitches sitting in the back.

Now what I told you may have been stretched but being up for 3 days and on the 3rd at 3:58am your first car you ever built that is def what happened in my head.

I leaned the seat back pinched myself to make sure I still wasnt dreaming started it a couple more times to make sure it was real and I fell asleep in my car for about an hour until my buddy eric asked if I was ok. I woke up left went to jegs grabbed some more random stuff and headed into work.

After work took her and dropped her off at IPS,

Here is how she sits now, Waiting for a Alignment and to get Vats and the rest of the stuff deleted of the ECU. No tune for now as its pretty much stock.

Also I forgot to mention one crazy thing, right now my buddy Jon is backed up and cant get me in the shop for a couple weeks to get the exhaust done, so I put some down turns on my stock 3.5 inch collectors and that is how I will drive it to South Carolina with hearing protection the entire way there and back until he can get my exhaust made. Some say I wont make it I say its gonna be awesome.

To anyone doing this or wants to be ready to have your wallet raped. Be patient and always read you brain to sleep on forums to see what others have fucked up done right and to get your own Ideas.

To the haters, I gotten told I bought this and all I had to do was bolt shit together. Its far from it by about a hundred miles, but seeing as you have never done this I can say I have and laugh at what you told me.

That's great bud. One of my buddies is doing an ls6 in his s13.... Its funny with him because he has always had a BA sr20 in there, his licence plate was even "SR 4 LYF"... and us lsx guys finally convinced him he could go just as fast, if not faster, with MUCH more reliability if he did an lsx swap. His swap is taking MUCH longer due to his meticulous nature.
