The_buster
Just wanted to see what everyone thought of this idea. A guy came into work the other night and we got to talking about his "plain ol' neon". He has a 98, i think, body with a 2.4 engine and srt4 internals, and a 50 trim turbo. He was saying for $800 you can get the stock turbo and manifold and an engine from one of the 2.4l "cloud cars". I thought this would be a fun project that wouldnt cost too much to start off and I can build this or gather parts a little at a time. Would this be a decent build or is it still just a neon in the end? First step of the build is convincing the wife its a "good idea" lol. Hahn
Its something different. In the 2 door coupe it could be neat, wouldnt bother with the 4 door though. Regardless theres always going to be someone saying "its still a neon".
copperhead
The 4 door is lighter than the 2 door

BloodRed
That swap has become quite common in the Neon world. As others have said check out neons.org Great write ups on this topic.

10phone2
the 1st gen neons can be lots of fun with a turbo 2.4 engine in it. You don't have to sleeve the block and worry about crankwalk. You have tons of auto options and a solid aftermarket following. Due to it being a Neon, it doesn't get any attention until the boost builds if you keep it looking stock. I would recommend checking out turbo-mopar and turbododge due to they are the older 8 valve guys who wrote the book on FWD Mopar and do 2.4 swaps on a regular basis. For 3k including the car, you can have a fun car to piss around with.

Avenger1647545502
It's a tight fit, but do-able. I'd swap that motor into something like a K-car myself, preferably a wagon. With woodgrain sides.
Green Bastard
^^ now that would be a sleeper, nobody expects a fast k car wagon lol.

With woodgrain sides. you sir are correct. Even the 2.4 pushing 30 pounds in an Omni would be titties. My GLHS had 25 pounds on a stock block and there was never a dull moment, keep in mind that was only the 8 valve motor
