I just need to transfer the tags from my old car, to my new one. What do I need to take to the BMV? Just the registration from the old vehicle and the memorandum title to the new one, and my ID? Crossle Posted October 1, 2012 Report Share Posted October 1, 2012 Need an ID, and the "title" for the new car be it the title or a memorandum. You do not need the registration for the last car the tags were on as they are on file, but it never hurts to have. And yeah it's like $5 or less. That is what I read as well, but have managed to transfer tags from cars I still have to a new car since I knew I was never going to drive the old car before selling it.
