Bought it back in August, but pics of my new truck (Diesel Content Inside)

So I wasn't planning on buying a new truck (or selling the 2011 Ranger I bought just last year) but a good deal came along so I jumped on it. I got a good enough deal on the Ranger that I lost less than $500 when I sold it too!

 

New to me truck is a 2007 Ram 2500 Regular cab longbed with 38k miles on it . It's a basic truck just like my ranger was, with power nothing and 2wd. It does have cruise control, AC, and cd player, though. The main reason I bought was the 6.7 Cummins diesel and 6 speed manual, with the 3.73 rear end. I have enjoyed driving my dad's 2010 cummins truck, which is largely why I wanted one myself. With the 2wd, Reg Cab, singe real wheel combination, this is the lightest chassis the cummins diesel is offered in. So far it's been fun :).

 

The only real hauling it's seen is towing dad's 10k travel trailer to Mid-Ohio, and several camping trips. Here are some shitty cellphone pics from when I first brought it home, quite ugly:

I found a deal on some pretty rare forged Power Wagon wheels made by Alcoa, so those were added. I also got rid of a few badges and added some mudflaps, to prevent any further rock chips behind the wheels (they show really badly on white).

I just wanted to share. Plans for the truck are hopefully a tuner and exhaust over the winter, and likely an egr delete at the same time. Clutch will likely need upgraded soon after. Also down the road I may do a slight shackle drop in the rear to get rid of the giant rake it has now.

can someone explain to me why the cummins engines are so popular? Are they all turbo? Is yours?

And yea mine is turbo. As far as I know every cummins that's ever been offered in a ram truck has been turbo. Most non-turbo diesels were phased out in the mid 90s by Ford and Chevrolet.

 

Cummins are reliable, powerful, and relatively easy to work on with their inline 6, single turbo configuration. I really don't need a diesel truck, but I've always had a love for diesel engines so I jumped on a great deal. After tuner and exhaust I should be able to squeeze 20mpg out of this one too.

You should easily see 20mpg, get a programmer.

my dually averages 24mpg. With a nv4500 (more boost 35-37lbs, more timing, and more fuel obviously)

Nice ride. I see about 22mpg on mine just cruising, but I have the 5.9/nv5600 .

 

Brian, yes all the pick up truck engines are turbo. I can probably go into a big long marketing discussion on why the motor is awesome. In my eyes, its the reliability, ease of service compared to the V8 diesels in competitors. Fuel Economy. Component strength.

 

I'm a 2wd fan as well. So I don't care for the big wheels, or the 4wd (front end component nightmare), harder to load toys in the bed. I actually ended up buying some new factory Michelin take offs love 'em.

 

Depending on the tuner most of them will lead you to needing fuel injectors much sooner. Its like most things you will have to pay to play.

 

IMO improve your fuel filtration for injector longevity.

Cool, but goofy on a single rear wheel.

 

Clean truck. The faster you can delete the egr the better. Those egr systems do way more harm than good!

 

Yea I know. Emissions shit only works well if you drive the truck loaded all the time. Guy before me only towed his horse trailer with it so it's had no issues yet. I will be deleting though asap.

 

Get rid of the pedal covers.

 

Lol yep I know. They're ugly but the stock pedals are admittedly small, which is why the previous owner put them on. We'll see.

 

Fawk...that's an awesome truck. I absolutely love it. Basic enough, but still with the big-daddy powertrain, cruise and A/C...Longbed...nothing else is needed.
