Miller
Car's coming along. I will have interior shots shortly. When it warms up I will be installing the latest parts. I have a big brake kit and am still deciding on the new shoes that I'll need. Hung up on all the choices.
ShoMeSomeFun
When i saw the pics I thought charcoal/dark silver would look good on that car. Also matte white with the wheel combo as the other guy said would look good as well. Have fun with the project.
Miller
The first time plastic welding went ok. It's actually fun to set a movie on the laptop and sit down at my little work station. I patched up the breaks, cut out the nasty crap and put 4 coats of paint and wet sanding on this. I need to seal, buff and wax now. I also finished cutting my speaker grill covers will post pics tonight. Cordell
Wow a Miller thread that doesn't suck. Nice work on the interior parts, maybe I'll get to see it sometime.
Miller
Updated my post above with the finished dash pad. Wow a Miller thread that doesn't suck. Nice work on the interior parts, maybe I'll get to see it sometime. Thanks Cordial. Probably will I intend to drive this one instead of always upgrading. Exactly what I do when I work on stuff like this. It's therapy man. Next Piece being tackled is the center and its screen components. Probably upgrading my shifter and boot while I am in there. http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=794&pictureid=7008 Edited March 9, 2013 by Miller
Miller
Kick panels and console are complete and drying. I'll snap a photo of that tomorrow evening after I seal and wax. Won't be putting it back in until I do the new shift setup and main dash.

zeitgeist57
How did you plastic-weld the dash??? My Ford truck dash is the same way and I'd love to fix it like you did. I bought $30 worth of vinyl boat upholstery and it sucks...need to take it off and start from scratch...
Miller
Soft plastics: Start by getting an industrial grade hot glue gun. you want one with a really big trigger so you can use several fingers. Your hands will get tired with a single trigger. Also get 3m 12 inch 3762 glue sticks, they're really strong. Take your piece and clean, sand and clean again. Now get a piece of cardboard, think the same consistency of a cereal box so it can shape easily to the curves. Wrap the cardboard in tin foil with the edges taped on the back so that the front is perfectly smooth and smear a thin layer of vasoline across the foil. Tape it tightly against the area you're working and come on the backside with your hot glue. It will fill in the area then i also smear additional glue to structural points that make it stronger. If you did it right, 15 minutes later you can pull the cardboard and it will be smooth as glass. No need to sand you're ready to prime and paint. Hard plastics: Clean and sand the pieces then get out the old solder and carefully scrub it in zig-zags across the broken area. Repeat this a few times until they're essentially "welded". Fill the cracks with filler, prime and paint. I've spent less than $100 to do everything with this so far and it's fun. I would really enjoy it if I wasn't sliding it in between my job, business and girlfriend. I'm sick of painting. If I had replaced everything the car would have cut into my go-fast portion of the budget.

Miller
Took the day off from work yesterday to assemble the car. I still need to dremel the back of the car for the new taillights and do some wiring. What you don't see in this pic yet is that I took the time to remove all the old lighting and replace the cluster and mini-pods with blue led lighting to bring it into the 21st century, a little. Miller
Thanks Joe! 5 lug swap, wheels and tires ready to go. I just completed my hub and spindle assembly this evening. It was amazing how far down I had to go with my dremel to reach bare metal. It took days with a metal shaver and wire brush. Plus I used naval jelly twice and soaked them in vinegar for a few hours. Primed then used VHT caliper paint. http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=794&pictureid=7191 http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=794&pictureid=7192 http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=794&pictureid=7193 http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=794&pictureid=7194 Edited May 22, 2013 by Miller

Miller
Looking great! The dash mount is for your phone or a GPS unit? Are you running a stereo? Sort of! Ya it's for my iphone/gps. I have an amp in the arm rest that I can flip on and off that connects to a headphone jack mounted to the dash. So I have gps through my speakers and music without a head unit in my 32 year old car

That's what I want to do with my tee-ruk: Get a 3.5mm headphone to RCA cable at RadioShack, install an amp, wire some speakers, adjust the gain input and DUNZO. Glad to see someone else is doing the same thing.
