I hope so. I am bringing my $50 since all the presale tickets for the track day were sold out. Hopefully I can make a pass on Saturday!

Looking forward to seeing you make some passes, should run some good numbers.

Why did you choose to run electric fans insted of the factory one? I've herd the electric ones don't perform as well as the original one

Mine stays cool without issue. However I went to electrical fans for the cleaner look and not losing HP at high RPM due to the rotating mass of the fan and clutch. It actually weighs quite a bit!

I agree my buddy was going to go electric but found most of the supra guys go with th stock fan because the electric couldn't keep up with the cooling, awesome yours does gives much more room in the bay

Well I do have a mishimoto upgraded Rad, so maybe that is the difference. Only time I had issues keeping the car cool was because the coolant system was half empty!

Good thing I did not buy your turbulator

Why do you say that?

Turns out it looks like a valve stem seal issue. Old turbo has no issues but currently isn't for sale. Found out class rules changed to allow 80mm cast turbos to be permitted on auto cars ;)

If case you need a spare. Smoke screen-I always default to blown turbo :)

Who built the head? Throw it through their front window. :dumb:

No doubt. My first inclination was "omg turbo is junk" when I saw oil pouring out.

However I found the plugs are soaked and there is a puddle of oil on every piston. So either ALL 6 rings let go or the stock valve stem seals didn't like the E85 laden Brad penn that sat in it all winter.

It could be that or more to do with the motor sitting dry for a few years w.o oil. I moved it around a few times w.o oil before I in stalled it, so it was probably somewhat my fault as well.

Just time to suck it up and do the valve stem seals and call it a day.

  • 2 weeks later...

Leak down was a flat 45% across the board. All cylinders reflected that. Pulled the cams and the first two intake valve seals. Both looked to be in find shape. I ended up replacing them because the ones I pulled were ruined.

Warm Leak down:

Seal that was in the motor:

The last questionable thing is maybe a turbo oiling issue, but it is difficult to tell if the oil was collecting on the turbine wheel and dripping back in, or if it was leaking from the turbo itself...

Also another side note.... the burning oil has continuously gotten worse. It was smoking badly when it was pulled in the garage yesterday. Debating on putting it all back together and trying my 80mm to see if I have the same results.

What's my prize? :)

Looks like a lot of work. Try and do some digging and see if the previous owner had issues with that head unit prior to sale. I know he is a big name in the community, but that does not to give him a pass on selling you a turbo with a known issue.

I am getting odd leak down numbers... like the cylinder is either out of round or has ingested foreign material. I can get the cylinder to seal in some places with no load and once you put a bit of weight on the crank, it leaks like a sieve.

Looks like it is time to tear down and find out what happened....
