Rat Rod Diesel

Finally able to get started on my rat rod project. The cab is a 40's KB International. The rear end is a 14 bolt from a 91 K3500 dually spinning 4.56 gears. The engine I'm going to be running is an 85 VW 4cyl diesel. The frame is hand made. I'm getting a 5spd from a VW fox to run behind it.

 How's that gonna work? Thought the fox was fwd.

Its an n/a diesel. I may add a turbo and rework the pump. The fox trans is a direct bolt up and will be a 5spd. The rear end has 4.56 gears and will be lighter than a Jetta. Granted it won't be winning any land speed races but will be faster than a Prius and get 40 mpg.

It would appear you have this very well under control, but I must ask why not just a 4BT?

Is the goal just mileage while still looking sweet or what?

Very cool in its current state regardless, just wondering.

The reason for the VW engine is for mileage. A 4bt would be cool but it weighs more and doesn't get the mileage I want. I already had the engine from a car I parted out. The goals for this build is to build something completely different, gets great mileage, and for little out of pocket money.

+1 again for an interesting build.

Looks fun. Did you build this thus far? Looks like a project I seen on another site some time ago.

I did. What site did you sse a simular project on? I'm a little hung up on which way I want to go with the suspension. I have brackets for a pinto front suspension, but found a honey of a deal on a complete 3500HD front axle with brakes
