DOZZER
Finally able to get started on my rat rod project. The cab is a 40's KB International. The rear end is a 14 bolt from a 91 K3500 dually spinning 4.56 gears. The engine I'm going to be running is an 85 VW 4cyl diesel. The frame is hand made. I'm getting a 5spd from a VW fox to run behind it. http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n247/BDOZZER/20130322_192708_zpse0085645.jpg http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n247/BDOZZER/20130322_192856_zps80712205.jpg http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n247/BDOZZER/20130322_192759_zps6ee733b9.jpg http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n247/BDOZZER/20130322_192743_zps7b8e6016.jpg http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n247/BDOZZER/20130322_192726_zpse6d139b6.jpg

99StockGT
What an awesome unique project! Clearly something you thought about before diving in what was the inspiration? Pretty sure I've never seen anything like this before but very interested to see the progress!

10phone2
I am flat out impressed he built his own frame. Top notch work.

zeitgeist57
This build still vexes me... The '85 1.6L VW diesel is going to stay N/A or are you turbocharging? How will a Brazilian VW fox tranny work for RWD setup?
DOZZER
Its an n/a diesel. I may add a turbo and rework the pump. The fox trans is a direct bolt up and will be a 5spd. The rear end has 4.56 gears and will be lighter than a Jetta. Granted it won't be winning any land speed races but will be faster than a Prius and get 40 mpg. Mr. Jones
The 1.6 n/a diesel are UBER slow. Toss a pre- pd 1.9T in there for dem torques! Very cool build man!
zeitgeist57
Looking forward to seeing it at HD on Sawmill sometime!
spankis
It would appear you have this very well under control, but I must ask why not just a 4BT? Is the goal just mileage while still looking sweet or what? Very cool in its current state regardless, just wondering.
John Bruh
Good luck with the project! I have a 67 Chevy I'm going to make a custom aluminum flatbed for it. I have a common rail drive train for it too!
DOZZER
The reason for the VW engine is for mileage. A 4bt would be cool but it weighs more and doesn't get the mileage I want. I already had the engine from a car I parted out. The goals for this build is to build something completely different, gets great mileage, and for little out of pocket money. What site did you sse a simular project on? I'm a little hung up on which way I want to go with the suspension. I have brackets for a pinto front suspension, but found a honey of a deal on a complete 3500HD front axle with brakes
