Ackbar00
Thinking of getting a 04 GXP or even a GTP. I just sold my 02 mustang and this is what I am thinking of getting. Anybody have one? Things I should look for? Common issues? Mods? . I had a 97 GTP and I loved that car.
SRTurbo04
Don't waste your time on the gxp pos Gtps are nice big comfy reliable That's all ive got. As I had. 04 Gt
85 Z-28
Ackbar Ive got an 04 GTP and I really love this car. Im not sure with the previous model but if your around 40 mph and hammer the gas it will not downshift because the trannys are a but weak. If you can get a lower mileage car you should be able to do a tune and pulley no problem. I have the fake leather and HUD, premium stereo all of which are decent to nice. The but warmers are nice and toasty, seats are super comfy, brakes are not bad for stock, I average 20.5 mpg and 28 on the highway. If I fit better I would probably get another one but at 6'4" I have to head lean. I will be sad to sell this as HUD is awesome! There is a setting that blacks out the IP, you turn down the interior lights and cruise with just the HUD at night, so easy on the eyes. And for what its worth it cruises really well at 90 haha! So I'd say go for it or at least take a few test drives, but try to stick to lower mileage cars if you want to mod it.
2 Sweet
Paul is right, don't get a GXP. Several issues with those, mainly the transmissions. GTP's are awesome though. Loved my '97 and my '98. The '04+ are very similar cars so I'm sure you would like them

Do the math. GTP's...have had a 97 and a 99 and loved them. Modded the hell out of the 99 and even bone stock and new it was great and one of my favorites. nurkvinny
98, 02, and 04 (current) here. I'm a fan of the Grand Prix. Some of the best bang for the buck out there. The 04 is a Comp-G, and I'd recommend it to anyone.

Snowflake
I had a 98 that was a good, reliable car the whole time I had it and I beat the shit out of it. It really doesn't take much to make them pretty quick either. I would buy another if I found the right one.
Ackbar00
I had a 97 GTP, went 14.50@97. Had 215k on it when I sold it. Loved it. Figured getting an 04 body style would be a nice change. For me, this is stricly a daily driver. Couple mods, thats it. I did read about some of the GXP tranny issues, but seemed like if you added another tranny cooler and had the car tuned with like a Overkill PCM, it addressed a lot of those issues. Guess not though.... Guess Ill ask, my only real requirments in a new beater are this: 4 doors A bit unique - As in the GTP, but not the base GP Under 10k $ Things I am looking at, but having trouble finding decent miled under 10k$ GTP/GXP HHR SS Acura TL 2004+ Like these, just cant find any: CTS-V G8 WRX EVO
xlr8tn
we had a 99 GTP.....great car. I never really had to work on it at all....maintenance and a couple small things. When we traded it in it had 160k miles on it and still ran like brand new. Ran pretty decent too for what it was. I think almost anyone that's ever owned a GTP has been pretty happy with them. There are a few exceptions I'm sure but most people love them.

thorne
I had an 05 Monte Carlo SS Supercharged and it was a great riding car. It only went 14.6 in the 1/4 with a few mods. But I've been told the Monte was slower then the GTP due to transmission tune.

Orion
I haaaaate front wheel drive, and automatics. 2 Sweet
Then you don't hate them enough. Or, more accurately stated, you don't hate them to the correct degree. Fair enough. I guess it depends on what you expect out of the car. If you don't want to spend much and accept that it's nothing more than a daily, you'll love it despite the drawbacks. If you try to build it into a race car, you'll hate yourself for wasting time and money on a FWD automatic family car. At the end of the day it's a very practical, reliable, comfortable, somewhat quick/fun daily driver that is cheap and easy to mod and wrench on. I'll probably have another one at some point
Ackbar00
Well.... I ended up getting a 05 GXP 84k and was stock. http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/ae290/ackbar00/GXP/IMG_2114_zps3629ecd7.jpg Done a few things to it so far. Got a ZZP Downpipe, had the resonator cut out, a Diablo InTune and Im still figuring out what to do about the intake side. Plastidiped the wheels, new headlights, tinited the Parking lights and added a monster tranny cooler. For a daily driver, it is pure awesome! http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/ae290/ackbar00/GXP/IMG_2156_zps406aa875.jpg http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/ae290/ackbar00/GXP/IMG_2154_zps17163da8.jpg http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/ae290/ackbar00/GXP/IMG_2166_zps52c81553.jpg http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/ae290/ackbar00/GXP/ZZPDPInstalled_zpsa8be1ef2.jpg For a few days while I was plastidipping the wheels, I put my stock Bullets off of my old Mustang on it. http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/ae290/ackbar00/GXP/IMG_2127_zps7cad0654.jpg

Buck531
I can't remember if my DHP does 05 cars or not. You're welcome to it if you wanted to play around with the tune. As far as intake I'd just stick a cone on the end of the intake tube. I can't remember.. is this one S/C or did it get the lsx motor?
