If you see one you can spray it with soapy water, or put some kind of silicone based solution in their hole and you'll see them dead on the ground soon enough. I've battled them over the past several years. I can stand on the deck alone and listen for them if there's no wind. Easy to hear them burrowing. Hornet spray followed by some wood filler works.
