Body Shop Recommendations?

A lady backed her hitch into my front bumper yesterday and I'm expecting a check from her insurance by the end of the week. Looks like a new front bumper cover and some paint are all that is needed. Any recommendations for where I should take it?

Since this dude doesn't answer or return phone calls I'll post this here.

 

Kevin,

 

First, when someone sends you personal info about their vehicle and the insurance claim it's good practice to call them back to confirm the info was received. The point was so that you could get parts ordered and be ready to go when I dropped the car off. I had to line up things like rental cars, etc. and these things cost time and money. A phone call would go a long way to easing my anxieties about the whole thing.

 

Second, when you don't call me back to confirm the receipt of this info you should at least answer MY calls. I called 4 different times since the middle of last week, both the number you called me on AND the number of your shop (with no way to leave a message at either number). Again, I'm having to line up rental car, transportation after I drop my car off, etc. These things cost time and money.

 

Third, when I schedule an appointment with you to drop the car off at a certain time I expect you to honor it. I don't expect to miss 2 hours of work, inconvenience my lady to follow me down there in another vehicle, and schedule a rental just to have you stand me up.

 

I hate to leave a shitty review on here for all to see, but your lack of professionalism just cost me time and money and a good bit of frustration. I'm thinking I can find someone else to take my thousands of dollars. How this kind of behavior has gotten you the recommendations I saw here is baffling, but you just lost what could have been a loyal customer.

I think that any review is relevant regardless of whether or not your experience has matched that of others on the board. It's good feedback for Kevin either way. If this was your experience, it's good for him to hear it. My experience with Kevin (more than one occasion) was very positive.

 

I don't know that calling him names gives your review credibility though. Good luck on finding somewhere to take your car. Do a search to find another shop if you need more recommendations.

I'll just assume you didnt send it or you typod the email address. I'm sure whatever shop you choose to take it to will give you 8 hour turn around time for a brand new cover.

It's okay, I don't consider this a review. My work speaks for itself, not people not dropping cars off. Frankly, based on this interaction and the last phone conversation, I didn't loose a thing.

I have had a really good experience with Auto Body Specialists on 5th ave in Grandview based on a recommendation from this board. I would call them, they will sort you out and as a bonus you get to look at all the pretty race cars they work on.

I dunno man. Look I don't know you and your work does come highly recommended but I have to say this is not really a good public attitude to have. You should consider this a review, because it does speak a little to your communication which is part of your professionalism.

 

When I was looking for a body shop on here I got a lot, and I do mean A LOT, of people who recommended you very highly but they all said the same thing: "he's fantastic but....he sucks at communication". I get it you have your loyal customers and a reputation for good actual work, but you do also have this other reputation as being difficult to communicate with.

 

this may be hurting you more than you know. I didn't go with you because honestly for an in and out insurance job on a car I depended on I really didn't need to add a communication problem to the mix (esp when an urgency in my life is not an urgency in yours). It sounds like you have a great loyal customer base but you might not be growing as fast as you could when even your customer base is saying "he's great,but..."

 

I'm not trying to jump on your shit and be a dick here, just pointing out an area in which you could grow that might help your business. I personally would at some point like to talk to you about work on a car I have because apparently your work is "that good", but I would have wait until I didn't depend on that car so I could get comfortable with not speaking to you for two weeks while you have my car.

I actually agree with you, but I understand that Kevin doesn't need my work, or yours. I choose to go to Kevin because I like him and I want it done right. If someone isn't OK with how Kevin operates, then going somewhere else is best for both them, and Kevin. Having a review like this is also not bad because it gives others an expectation so they aren't surprised.

 

Either way, Kevin will still have plenty of work.

My experience with Clifford was the polar opposite. I had my hood shipped directly to his shop, he inspected and signed for it. He sent text or called every step of the way, and even posted progress pics on Facebook. He met me at his shop a few different times, and was always there when he promised. Because I was paying for a rental he pushed to get the work done before the weekend. His communication was the best I have ever come across.

 

I realize you will probably take the "devil's advocate" approach, but I highly doubt the service I received was an exception. He didn't know me or my car before I reached out to him.

busy shops usually have communication issues, it is an industry problem. Shops that do good work usually are busy so....

 

I agree it might help him to have this in managing expectations.

I said nothing for your quality of work, Kevin. I simply had gripes with your inability to communicate with a customer in a timely and professional manner. At the time of my writing that I'd been unable to contact you after numerous calls to both the number you initially contacted me from AND the number on your website. I'd tried both numbers a handful of times between our first convo and that morning...a solid 6 days, to no avail. I had just sat in your lot for 20 minutes and had a quick chat with a guy who claimed he rented you the space and he said you were "hard to get a-hold of." He even tried calling you while I stood there.

 

I was pissed. There was no mention of a key drop during your one and only call, only that I would meet you there at 8am. No offense, but I don't know you and you don't even have a sign advertising your workspace...no way I'm leaving my key in some slot on a blank building without having met you, signed something, etc. I would have told you that on the phone had you told me that you intended for me to leave the car. I found you on a website full of mostly strangers, dude. I expected to meet the guy who would have possession of my baby.

 

 

So maybe this whole thing is my fault...but I sure don't feel that way. I just wanted my car fixed. When I couldn't get you on the phone I felt this was necessary.

 

I'm not looking to drag you though the mud. I manage a business myself and I run the place based on customer reviews. I was just looking to leave some negative feedback the only way I could. I appreciate that you did call me later that day. Had you caught me before I posted this I could have aired it out to you then. Good luck to you in the future.
