Ryan218
Decided it was time to try something new. Picked up a really clean 03 1500 4.8 2wd truck. Need to get a set of wheels for it and lower it first off. Then the question is do I build the 4.8 or just grab a 6.0 to put in it. Ls people. I need help. I have no idea what I'm doing here lol. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g226/ryan218/Mobile%20Uploads/image_4.jpeg

Forrest Gump 9
On3 turbo kit?
Cordell
Simple truck, easy to mod. I wouldn't do anything to a 4.8 unless it involves boost. Dropping a 6.0 in it is a direct swap with tuning.
Flybye
Turbo the 4.8. Someone recently posted a video of a local Camaro making 800+whp with one.
zeitgeist57
Firestone Winterforce tires on the stock rims...all the traction you need in cold weather. ....until that On3 kit.
EssFo
Yep. Turbo, built trans and some sticky tires.

Ryan218
Im leaning more towards doing a 6.0 like to try for around 400. Would be a fun truck. Maybe boost down the road.
TTQ B4U
Yep. Turbo, built trans and some sticky tires. ^^ this. My vote would be to keep it simple, fun and reliable.
brent1976
6L/80e is pretty much bullet proof. Then if you want to boost it down the road you can make really good power without having to do anything more. Maybe find a decent cam to throw in it before you put the engine in. Headers IMO make it too loud in the cab, I would do a nice cat back.

Flybye
Fuck pulling a motor to make less power for roughly the same cost. Maybe more.....TURBO.
Ackbar00
I was reading about this one today: http://ls1tech.com/forums/vehicle-classifieds/1271205-cammed-6-0-rcsb-silverado-7500-a.html Not sure what he has in his 6.0 swap, but don't "seem" like a lot. Guest GMoney
No need to build the 4.8. Just re-gap the rings, maybe a cam, and let it eat. Should make 700whp no problem. The trans and rear end will be the first breaking points. The trans will go at about 500whp and the rear end once you put sticky tires on it. When the 4.8 blows get another one for under $200. Once it warms up a bit mine will be finished. I have just a few more things to fab up. http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w404/Flak_Jacket/IMG_3529_zpscc2zcyjs.jpg http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w404/Flak_Jacket/IMG_3545_zpskf4dv6vo.jpg Edited February 13, 2016 by GMoney
2 Sweet
I'm confused....isn't this a 4L60E? They can barely even handle the power of a stock motor
Guest GMoney
I'm confused....isn't this a 4L60E? They can barely even handle the power of a stock motor Yes they are with a proper tune they can hold some power for a period of time. If you don't allow them to do full throttle kick downs from 4th gear to 1st or 2nd with big power they will survive longer than people think. Also keep the shifts below 6000 rpms, they don't like spinning fast and that's what most people do.
EssFo
4L60 is what keeps transmission shops in business.
brent1976
I went through 3 FLT level 7 4L65e in 1 1/2 years before I put the turbo on my gray truck at around 360 whp. It only ran 14.0 as it was. With the 4L80e and circle-d tcc it made 630whp/650wtq it went 11.6, and I dd it for almost 7 years/80k miles without a problem. Now it's in my newer truck still without a problem. F body's will take some power but trucks are to heavy for the 60 with any power.
Ryan218
That was my impression of the 4l60e I've been thinking of putting a ctsv/zl1 blower on it. Just going to be a fun street cruiser. Don't need crazy power. Just want a truck that's enjoyable to drive and still use as for home depo trips. Still doing some re search but looking to be super simple and cheap. Have been looking around at options to lower the truck. Don't know if I should go 2/4 or 3/5 drop on it. Will be using 20" ss replicas on it. This is what I'm going after http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g226/ryan218/Mobile%20Uploads/image.png
87GT
Tint the windows dark, throw on those those rims, boost it. Just don't lower a truck!
Otis Nice
Blah blah blah blah blah. Just don't lower a truck! Just my opinion of course. Do you and have fun.
