TTQ B4U Posted July 8, 2018 Report Share Posted July 8, 2018 (edited) So Eric and his M5 referred over a fellow forum member from the M-Series world to me in order to breath some life into this awesome machine. The story here is the car is originally from Chicago but made it's way to Ohio for the second leg of it's ownership experience. It ended up through a subsequent sale in the hands of a collector who had an affinity for Japanese iron and dipped his toe into the world of German autos. Must not have been his thing as it was sitting in a warehouse in Findley, Ohio until it's current owner found it for sale. As a current M3 Owner and a true car guy, he wanted this to be his daily and with that at least have a little gloss to the swirls it was presenting. Looking over the options, he decided to hide the majority of the imperfections and coat it so it would hold up to sitting outside year-round given his M3 holds the garage queen spot. I couldn't resist leaning into this one a bit more as removing most but not enough would't do this baby justice. I ended up with a few more hours in it but the end result is darn near 95++ % correction and the few blemishes that remain are simply "remembrances" that this baby is 15+ years old. Clay needs one like this. BMW German style, excellent platform, 6 speed V8 with an exhaust delete that is damn perfection it sounds so deep and good. Not at all "LOUD" like I would have expected. The swirls here don't come across as bad in pics as they do in person. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167772406/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167772405/original.jpg Overall, the car was just plain dull and lifeless looking when instead that paint was crying to come alive with metallic flake, color and depth. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167772407/original.jpg With that the transformation to Cars & Coffee worthiness took place: The car was corrected and coated with two (2) layers of Cquartz UK v3.0 (newest version) and one layer of CarPro Gliss which adds a SUPER Slick surface feel with the added protection of a fluorine based layer that is resistant to water spots, etching and generally perfect for vehicles that are victims of year-round exposure to the elements. Windows and Trim were also treated with their respective SiO2 based products. Thanks guys. This one floats around Lewis Center a bit. Owner is the coolest OSP officer I've met. insane work as always! I love a clean M5....but I love my V a little more. Also, the price this car sold for....you'd flip. It's no wonder he can afford to replace the headlights and put on some BBS's onto it. He stole it. He stole it. Tim, amazing work. I saw the car right after he got it and it was a completely different car. It was rough. He's addressed the mechanical side and you clearly made it sparkle. I still cannot thank you enough. As Eric stated, it needed a little TLC on the mechanical side (Eric saw it during the winter when I had to drive it while my E36 was down for repairs, so it looked like crap. Really presented like it did when you received it), but nothing outlandish. The previous owner just couldn't get into German cars and decided to sell and I was lucky enough to land (steal) it. These cars are pretty bulletproof as long as they are maintained. The E60 is the troubled big brother that is known for a number of issues. Especially those of the rod bearing variety. The process here was a combination of Wool pads and CarPro ClearCut compound and in other areas I used the Rupes UHS pads/polish as a 1-step. It was really on the edge of needing compounded but to get the most out of my time and corrections I had to two-step some of the panels. I used both the Flex 3401 and the new Rupes LK900 Mille Buffers on this vehicle. Tim, you are a magician. I still cannot thank you enough. You're quite welcome. Anytime I can help, I will.
