Friend needs help with a dealership issue

This is a post from a friend on Facebook that no longer lives in Ohio and needs some help fixing a title issue from the dealership. I figured someone here may have some info to help her out. Thanks

My husband and I purchased our first brand new vehicle in the summer of 2018 from Liberty Dodge Jeep Chrysler in Pataskala, Ohio.

At the time we were living in Michigan with our resident address showing as such. Liberty issued an Ohio title with a Michigan address, leaving the title effectively void.

Michigan agreed to allow us to purchase tags in order to drive legally but never fully registered the vehicle in their state due to the incorrect information. At that time I began attempting to correct the issue and have an amended title or new title sent to me. I was immediately sent in every direction and each individual blamed another.

Fast forward to 2019. We have moved back to our home state of Ohio and bought a home. I immediately began switching insurance and headed to the clerk of courts and BMV to get my Ohio plates only to find out that despite it being an Ohio title, the out of state address again would not allow me to register the vehicle. I reached out to Liberty who told me it was not their responsibility and I needed to contact the bank. The bank informed me that the dealer is responsible for issuance of all titles and would need to make the adjustments.

This began months of phone calls with Liberty, the bank (Ally) and visits to the BMV and clerk of courts to remedy my situation. All this time the clock is ticking on the expiration of my plates from Michigan.

In August 2019, I effectively lost the use of the vehicle due to an inability to legally register it in Ohio. I have made every payment on time and continue to make calls and beg for someone to help me but I am left with nothing but excuses.

For nearly 6 months I have paid for our brand new Jeep only to see it sit in the driveway.

My twins have had to be put in and out of my husbands small 2 door commuter car and due to the extra miles, it is now out of service as well.

Liberty took my money and sold me a vehicle I cannot drive due to their error. They refuse to correct their mistakes and the only option given was to trade it in... of course at far below what I still owe so again they profit while my family struggles.

I’m reaching out in hopes someone can help me find answers or at the very least, keep another buyer from suffering as I have.

Hire Attorney. Sounds like you’re friend has done everything that can be done otherwise.

Yep.

Idk if this person went to the dealer and asked to speak directly to the GM, but this should have been done much sooner. Making phone calls just isn't good enough sometimes.

If I'm not mistaken, address can be changed online and since this isn't a leased car, the name on the title is of the actual buyer/owner. In case it helps, the address on my titles and the address on my registrations are different. On top of everything, the mailing address on all those is a different third.

I'm sure I'm missing something but I don't understand this one? There is nothing wrong with assigning a title to someone in a different state?

Same here

If she still making payments means the car is still owned by the bank. It’s the bank’s problem. If she really want to solves this just go to the main DMV and they can be taken care of, and go early in the morning when those DMV workers are still nice

She bought a new vehicle in Ohio. Was given an Ohio title for it. Their address was in MI, so it was noted as such. That seems completely fine.

Then I assume they are required to go home and get it titled in MI...get it inspected, emissions if it exists, ect... Somehow Michigan was like..."ok, we are going to go ahead and register your Ohio titled vehicle...here are your plates."

Seems like Michigan itself messed up?
