Incase you're not familiar with RSS, you can use news readers such as:

Web:

Google Reader --> http://reader.google.com **I use this one**

News is Free --> http://www.newsisfree.com

Mac OS X:

NetNewsWire --> http://www.newsgator.com/Individuals/NetNewsWire

Bringing back a thread from the dead.

So I just installed this Rainmeter thing and was configuring the RSS feeds for my desktop... of course I wanted ORDN to be one of them, but using the link above, it doesn't update in my feed reader, and when I click the feeds that initially show up... it takes me to my login page.

This makes me think it's an Authenticated RSS feed and I can't figure out how to get Rainmeter passed that little detail.

Any help from the serious IT pros on here?

I don't use Rainmeter (can't make it work on Linux - HA! Conky FTW!), but on my Windows 7 "work box" I'm able to set one of the Sidebar RSS gadget-thingys to work. Click-through takes me to the post in Firefox, logged in. Set it to update every minute - that works, too.

I assume you've saved your user/pass to ORdN in Firefox?

Thought appending the user/pass to the url (http://<username>:<password>@ohio-riders.net/external.php?type=RSS2) might work, but that = fail. Damn.

Uncle Google seems to think that authenticated feeds ain't gonna work through Rainmeter's RSS gadget.

Outlook 2007 will do authenticated feeds - I was able to get it working without much trouble. Tried to find how to embed an Outlook folder in Rainmeter but gave up after 10 minutes.

GroupWise 8 works, too, but you likely don't have GroupWise as your mail server, so, umm, never mind. Plus, you probably can't embed it anyway.

I've got a virgin XPSP3 vm that I'll try Rainmeter on. Saw it years ago, seems like it has matured enough that it may be time to try it out. If I find anything useful (unlike now...) I'll post it up.

Yea, I tried the old <username>:<password> thing too with no dice

And I read the Outlook 2k7 would do it, but it won't incorporate to my desktop. :(

So, if you run across anything please post it up, it'd be nice to figure it out so I can use it on some of my other RSS feeds that need authentication.

Thanks!
