You're going to http://www.ohio-riders.net/showthread.php?t=42229 in that screenshot. Your DNS hasn't replicated down the 301 redirect yet, which is bullshit because that was done a week ago. That link should immediately redirect you to http://www.ohio-riders.com/showthread.php?t=42229 and work fine. Just use www.ohio-riders.com for now.

The redirect is done via a 301 DNS entry.

I may be mis-reading what you are saying but 301 redirects and DNS redirects are two different things. I have never seen them used together like that. A 301 redirect is a redirect by the webserver, it is not a DNS entry.

That's how it was working for me, except I would just hit esc. and it would load the page just fine, although I dodn't check to make sure all the images were right, just nothing I normally pay attention to was out of place.

It was happenning when reading a thread, replying to a thread, back to the home page, pretty much anywhere. As I said above, just hit esc. and it continued normally. I use the .com to get to the site, and the redirect seems to work fine.

Ok, your DNS looks fubar'd to me. I would think what you are doing is having the web server show the same content for all three domain names. Which means each FQDN should point to the same IP address.

They don't.

That's actually a good point. I'm doing this through GoDaddy's Domain Manager though. They have a section for forwarding domains. You can choose 301 or 302. So I guess the question would be then, how is GoDaddy doing the forwarding/redirecting? It has to be through the DNS, as the hosting isn't on GoDaddy. Now I'm intrigued.

It looks like GoDaddy's "redirecting" just points it to a webserver on their end, then uses an html redirect to point to the right domain. Interesting. I might as well just do that on my end. I've been reading about a lot of people having problems with GoDaddy's redirecting anyways. I just switched over to this last week. I'll go back to all the domains pointing to myserver.

Or have GoDaddy's DNS servers use the same IP address for each www a record in the domain. Assuming your webserver is set up to allow each name.

When you select to forward a domain, it automatically changes the A record. Before using GoDaddy's domain forwarding, I had all domains pointed to 66.102.237.10, and used Apache VHOST to point to the right folders.

That is the way I would do it, every time. Looks like you got all your hosting at Domain Services, at least DNS is there. How the heck did GoDaddy get in the middle here?

No hosting at Domain Services. I don't even know what Domain Services is. My hosting is a virtual-dedicated at NCISP in Raleigh, NC and all of my domains have been purchased via GoDaddy. I have a domain reseller account with them. I always do the VHOST gig, but different articles on SEO suggest using 301 redirects instead. Sounds like a crock of shit to me at this point.

Wow, guess I wasn't the only one!

FYI, I started getting this only last night (Sunday) and again this morning. I was using FF at home and IE6 on my work laptop.

Both times I was trying to access OR using the ohio-riders.net, thats how I have it bookmarked.

I would dismiss the popups each time (I never entered any info into them) and the page would still load correctly.

I kinda thought maybe a hacker planted something within the forum software :dunno:

Here's something else weird that just happened Ben. I was here for a bit then went to someo other sites for a bit then came back, using again my bookmarked ohio-riders.net link, when it brought me back here "http://www.ohio-riders.net" stayed at the top on my browser, it did NOT redirect me to the .com. Not until I clicked on something, the links all pointed to .com

He's changed something, because I can duplicate that one by just typing in the o-r.net url.

Yeah, I said a few posts back I was changing it back. The GoDaddy redirect thing is causing too many problems.

I hate it when you try something that SHOULD make it better, but it just messes it all up.... Not just with the site, but lot's of things that I've tried in the past!

Ok. So, lets clarify, for all practical purposes, we should use ohio-riders.com? Is that right? If so I 'll update all my bookmarks and try to get in the habit of using that.

That's what I do for simplicity! It's easier to type ohio-riders then press ctrl-enter. Although bookmarks it isn't an issue.

Seeing that any links you click put you on to the .com, that's what I would think. Casper will clarify, I'm sure.

Agreed.

It's supposed to be seemless to the end user. www.ohio-riders.com is the primary domain, but everything points to the same thing.
