Tell them your with the VStrom group. ;D Their web site: http://www.ironhorsenc.com/I'll try and answer a few common questions:1. Folks will be arriving mostly on Thursday (7th) & Friday (8th). Most will depart Sunday morning.2. If camping, no reservations are required. I would ask that you post your intentions in this thread so we can get a fair count for meals.3. Wifes, girlfriends & kids welcome. Although there isn't a lot for them to do if not riding.Great Smokey Montain RailroadCity of Cherokee4. All bikes are welcome, even Harley's & Beemer's. 5. Most group rides will be on Friday & Saturday. Some route maps will be available at the lodge.6. Breakfast & Dinners are served at Ironhorse (good stuff). Lunch your on your own unless prior arrangements are made.7. Dry county, so bring your own if so inclined. Ice & coolers available for a small fee. Closest available is Bryson City, about 17 miles.8. Coffee is available around 7AM. Iced Tea & coffee in the evenings after dinner.9. Kickstands up around 9AM for Friday & Saturday rides. Ride meeting Thursday & Friday nights around 8:30.10. There are other motels & campgrounds in the area if you procrastinate too long.11. Usually this time of year is rain free.Hope to see you all there.Here are some other accommodations in the area of Ironhorse.2.1 miles - Kickstand Lodge 6.2 miles - Tuskeegee Motel 8.6 miles - Freeman's Motel 11.2 miles - Nantahala Village12.5 miles - Microtel14.8 miles - Cold Springs Country Inn15.1 miles - Two Wheel inn 16.9 miles - Fontana Village 18.5 miles - Blue Waters Mountain Lodge 21.0 miles - Treetops22.8 miles - Deals Gap 23.7 miles - Tapoco Lodge The following are routes around the gathering. These do not include the Dragon as of now there is only one way traffic there. Gdb (Garmin Mapsource) & Gpx (GPS interchange) routes attached at the end of this post.3 State Loop:This is the 3-State Loop ride which is 205 miles & about 7 hrs ride time.Leaves Ironhorse down US28 to US74, left on US74 for short distance & right on US28. Follows US28 though Franklin & Highlands. A short distance through the Georgia tar snakes and into South Carolina. Turns North after some of SC US28 onto SC107. Runs up SC107 until right on SC S-37-413 which turns into NC281. Right onto US64 for about 10 miles & then left on Parkway Rd. Parkway Rd to the top and then left onto a nice section of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Parkway on down to US441 just North of Cherokee. Left on US441 and then right on US19. Follow US19 around the back of Cherokee & connect with US74 for the run back to US28 & Ironhorse. As and alternative you can stay on US19 through Bryson City & then connect with US74.Dirt Route One:This is Dirt Route one which is about 131 miles & 6-7 hrs ride time depending on stops.It includes some nice backroad twisties to warm up on, a ride around Lake Santeetlah & the dam overlook. About 25 miles of nice dirt (The dirt Cherohala - NC81 & N. River Rd in TN) where street tires & two-up is OK. Which crosses under the Cherohala Skyway at the top of the mountain. Down River Road & the Bald River Falls into Tellico Plains for lunch. The Cherohala Skyway return via Robbinsville & Sweetwater Road back to US28 & Ironhorse.Gap-Suches Loop:This is the Gap-Suches Loop, which is about 273 miles & 9-10 hrs ride time. You can cut some miles & time by not doing the two-way Deals Gap section.This loop starts by going up US28 to The Gap. A two-way trip through the gap, down US129 & then around Lake Santeethal to the Cherohala Skyway. Across the Cherohala to Tellico Plains, TN. From Tellico Plains down US68 through Ducktown to US60. US60 up to Suches & the down Wolf Pen Gap RD to US129. Up US129 to Old US64 (which turns into NC 141) & back to US129. US129 up to Robbinsville & Sweetwater RD back to US28 & Ironhorse.Wayah Rd - Warwoman Rd Loop:This is The Wayah Rd - Warwomen Rd Loop, which is about 234 miles and has a riding time of about 8-9 hrs.Starts by running down Hwy 28 from Ironhorse to US74. US74 down along the river to Wayah Rd. Wayah Rd up toward Franklin & cut right on US64. Nice ride over the mountain to Lake Hiawassee where you make a left on Hwy 175. Down 175 which runs into US76 for a couple miles & right on Hwy17 to the Unicoi State Park. Left on Hwy 376 through the park & then left on Hwy 197 to Burton Dam RD, then right on Burton Dam Rd. Then left on Bridge Creek Rd after a few miles. Stay on Bridge Creek Rd for about 10 miles & then left on Davis Gap for about a mile. Then right on US76 for about 6 miles to Germany for Warwoman Rd connection. Continue up Warwoman Rd for about 14 miles to Pine Mountain where you go left on Hwy 28.
