warpspeed
Pretty interesting...I'm more into Lsx engines but this was pretty impressive, especially the clutch.http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1575817
RSVDon
Impressive usage of parts. But goddamn is that thing a dyno queen. No usable power until 6k? Peak power WAY past that? Seems appropriate for an F1 car, not so much a full body street car.

The cosworth motors are awesome!!! and I am in no way a tuner gooner...

Steve Butters
Im with don the thing is neat but not much of a real life engine..depends on what youre building it for...its not a drag car for sure, but for those people who go out and run 80-180 rolls on the freeway, this thing would hand people their asses....or perhaps a texas mile car etc...no matter how you cut it, its got 3-4k rpm of a lot of power...no diff than a corvette that makes power from 2k-6k, this just makes it from 6-9kwith some long gearing like 2.73:1 i bet this thing would bust people on the freeways at night
John
some people got more money than they know what to do with lol
Jst2fst
I'd just buy a Veyron or a souped up Supra and call it quits
Steve Butters
i bet they came in way under cost of a veyron lol....and supra or 4g63 wouldnt matter to me really...but i know if i was dropping that kinda coin on a motor, it wouldnt be a 4 banger and it wouldnt make 300whp at 6k rpm, ide enjoy a little more bottom end

Steve Butters
thats would be a hot setup with all wheel drive I could only imagine the fun one could have with something like thatdid they mention what it was going in? the escort they kept talkin about was a different car, i dont see where it mentions this motor... wondering if its going into an awd evo or something else**edit, it is in an evo, read on second page....that 1070whp subaru that was posted, supposedly runs 8s....theyre doing something right with these builds lol Edited January 12, 2011 by Steve Butters
Steve Butters
reading the thread more...they have $44,000 in just the crank and connecting rods...fuuuck lol....$31,000 crank is insanity...and those rods are beefy as hell

RSVDon
I'm curious of the outcome had they poured that R&D into a V8 or V10 application. $100k crankshaft anyone?
ohdaho
I hate these I4 vs V8 type discussions...as car/motorcycle guys we should all know its not necessarily about getting the most power for the buck, but about doing something different. Whats the joy of going out and buying a car and doing no mods/engineering. Its about being different. Theres a coolness factor when you can say your fucking escort can run circles around a middleaged white guy in a corvette.
wicked94s10
Although they did not mention at first the vehicle the motor was for it did mention above the picture of the motor that the stock 4g63 would not hold up for the build. The 4g63 is a mitsubishi turbo motor that started in the galant vr-4 than went into the evos which were all wheel drives

This quote does come to mind when you say that though. You could have the fastest Civic in the world, but at the end of the day you're still driving a Civic. RSVDon
Its unfortunate when people like that cant appreciate good engineering.I can appreciate good engineering. What I can't appreciate is building a powertrain of that caliber and placing it in a shitbox.
