Good for you then... and what was the outcome?

A middle finger on her way to speak to the manager about how she was wronged by her card. Look, I know how your debates go and I fully expect the outcome when I enter into them. Honestly, you're a hell of a debater (queue master debater joke). You've taken me beyond my initial thought which was to provide a master list of consumables on which the Ohio Pride card would work. Hence the elimination of wasteful spending. There are people who need help and I'm good with helping them. There are those that are complacent in the system and those that abuse it. I want them off of my payroll. I'm out. I have millions of Ohioans to buy crab legs and cigarettes for tomorrow.

I agree, I don't think even the most bleeding heart of all the liberal hearts condones anyone who intentionally defrauds the system. I'm just trying to find the most pragmatic solution to the problem. I don't think we'll ever develop a perfect system, but we can do our best to maximize the effectiveness while minimizing the cost - and that system will still have inherent flaws which'll allow people the abuse it if they so desire. We can't eliminate fraud, but we can strike a point where there is enough enforcement to keep the fraud to an 'acceptable' level.

Honestly, I'm glad you said something to the lady, but there may be more to their story than their appearance (and iPhones) let on. That's all I'm saying. I try to not judge a book by their cover, give people the benefit of the doubt and whatnot, until I have evidence they're schmucks, then feel free to judge away. Everyone does.

iPhones have been around for almost 4 years, so they may have had them for a while before they lost their jobs.

Concerning the birth control: Our government authorized forced sterilizations, to weed out the undesirables, many decades before Hitler; actually our system was his inspiration. Margarate Sanger was advocating eugenics in the 1930s. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Sanger

If birth control and drug tests are madated to receive government assistance, what's next? During the H1N1 scandal some places were trying to mandate vaccinations. I'm guessing instead of forced sterilization maybe they could just tap into the water supply that leads to government housing and put something in the water to sterilize them.

Then again why not just "help" everyone by putting other medications in the water supply for everyone.

The great part of statins is that they cause memory loss and cognitive side effects, which would be perfect to get people to forget about all the problems with the government. Oops I forgot to vote, must be the water.

No actual cash is ever exchanged. Just keep that in mind. Benefits are loaded on a card. Cash Assistance is given directly to the service or provider. Transportation is paid for directly to the provider.

Unfortunately there aren't a whole lot of items that are restricted from purchase with the benefit card. Booze and cigarettes are though. But that doesn't keep someone some selling groceries that they bought with a benefit card to buy the restricted items. That is considered fraud. Which does get monitored, reported and sometimes prosecuted.

Food for thought. You cannot posses another person's benefit card. It's considered a felony because you are not the person the government issued it to.

The system is broken, there is no debate about that. However, there are people the truly need a helping hand from time to time. Most, are not baby producers, or crack heads. They are just average folks like you and me. I often ask what I would do if I was on the other side of the desk.
