Alpinestars GP Plus Gloves - New for Fall 2012!

Alpinestars made quite a few changes to their line of motorcycle gloves for the Fall 2012 release, and today we’ll give you a detailed look at the updated GP Plus model. While they may not look like a radical departure from the outgoing version at first glance, the new 2012 GP Plus is a much improved pair of gloves. Before we get to the changes, here’s a quick overview for those of you that may not be familiar with the model.

The GP Plus gloves are the least expensive of the “GP” gloves from Alpinestars, but this doesn’t mean that they are lacking in features. Alpinestars uses a sturdy, full grain leather construction that is backed by a Kevlar lining which runs throughout the interior. Areas that are at a higher risk for abrasion, like the outside of the hand, pinky, and palm are layered with extra panels of leather to help make sure that the only hide sliding on the pavement is cowhide, and not your own. Additional protection comes from a variety of TPU and TPR protectors that have been tried and tested by the likes of Jorge Lorenzo, Casey Stoner and Ben Spies in MotoGP. The shape and configuration of some of these protectors brings us to the changes.

The first change that most notice is the addition of a molded TPU slider to the palm. This slider keeps the hand from catching the pavement and transferring energy up through the wrist in the event of a fall. Updates were also made to the TPU protectors on the fingers in order to address one of the issues that some had with the previous version. While effective, the finger protectors used to be fairly tall and knobby. Alpinestars noticed this as well, so they switched them to a lower profile design that still provides the same level of protection, only without the bulk. Wrist protection was given a boost, too. A wrap-around PU cuff adds more security for the wrist and it does this while retaining the low profile that many people liked about the old version. Safety wasn’t the only thing that improved with the new model. Alpinestars also focused on flexibility. Accordion stretch panels in the first two fingers of each hand were relocated in order to make it easier to work the brake/clutch levers. A second stretch panel was also added to each thumb for improved fit and feel.

The new Alpinestars GP Plus gloves are a great option for the either the street or track day riding, and Riders Discount has them available now. Sizes run from Small to 3XL and, like most Alpinestars gloves, they run about one size small.

Alpinestars added a new palm slider to reduce the risk of common wrist injuries that can occur when people follow their instinctual reaction to throw their hands out when falling.

The palm is reinforced with Pittards Armor-Tan leather for additional abrasion resistance and longevity.

The patented Alpinestars Finger Bridge is still in place to prevent pinky dislocation, but it has been redesigned to allow for more movement. The finger sliders have also been replaced with lower profile TPU pads.

Dual stretch panels in the thumbs help add flexibility for better feel and an improved fit.
