He willingly went into the water. He was either looking for death or attention. He got both. If I see a situation where I think i can save someone's life without putting my own at too much risk..I'll do it. But, I'm not about to kill myself to try and save someone who is trying to take their own life. This wasn't a kiddie pool...this was SF bay. I for one can NOT tread water for the life of me. According to Cartman, I have 'big bones' and I sink like a rock. Unless one of my children are drowning, my ass ain't going in the water to save anyone. If you can't grab onto something I might be dangling in the water (see what I did there?)...you're on your own. I have children that depend on me and a water rescue is an unacceptable risk to me. The first responders didn't have the proper gear to get this done....and this guy wasn't exactly in distress when they got there. He's walking...and LOOKING BACK AT THEM.

Ok to you armchair wanna be heros. Most of you here know I'm a Firefighter/Medic on 2 dept's .... That being said, I'd stand there and let him go too. My life is more important than that of someone who wants to commit suicide. I have taken water rescue classes, have you clowns condeming thier actions taken those classes???? It's the rescuer who usually drowns too either from the struggle or hypothermia. I have fallen thru a floor of a burning house and I've went into the water too....to save people who didnt want to be there and that didnt want to die! Bash on fucktards, if you are man enough to do the job well go get your fire and emt cards and I'll put you on a truck with me for a few shifts and see if your opinion changes.

The only sad part in this is that people actually watched. Just standing around and watching someone die is pretty sick. If the guy had fallen over-board or off the dock and was making some attempt to save himself or was unconscious -then, yes, trying to save him would be justified. Since this guy went into the water under his own power, was there for an hour and then drowned himself - his choice. But, why watch?
