I'm sick of us doing all this nation building in other countries. We have our own problems to deal with. Let's build OUR nation.2 points

** Graphic read and picture ** I felt this needed to be reposted on here. This was on Tri-Cities Craigslist. I wish I knew who the shelter manger was who posted this, this is the most commendable thing I have ever witnessed and this person is amazing. When you surrender your best friend to the shelter go ahead and think it won't happen to them. But now you know better. And don't go out and get another one, if you cared so little to do it once you will do it again. Please Please Read This BEFORE you breed dogs in your back yard! BEFORE you take them to the POUND (USA) I think our society needs a huge "Wake-up" call. As a shelter manager, I am going to share a little insight with you all...a view from the inside if you will. First off, all of you people who have ever surrendered a pet to a shelter or humane society should be made to work in the "back" of an animal shelter for just one day. Maybe if you saw the life drain from a few sad, lost, confused eyes, you would stop flagging the ads on Craigslist and help these animals find homes. That puppy you just bought will most likely end up in my shelter when it's not a cute little puppy anymore. Just so you know there's a 90% chance that dog will never walk out of the shelter it's dumped at? Purebred or not! About 25% of all of the dogs that are "owner surrenders" or "strays", that come into a shelter are purebred dogs. The most common excuses: "We are moving and we can't take our dog (or cat)." Really? Where are you moving too that doesn't allow pets? Or they say, "The dog got bigger than we thought it would". How big did you think a German Shepherd would get? "We don't have time for her". Really? I work a 10-12 hour day and still have time for my 6 dogs! "She's tearing up our yard". How about making her a part of your family? They always tell me, "We just don't want to have to stress about finding a place for her. We know she'll get adopted, she's a good dog". Odds are your pet won't get adopted & how stressful do you think being in a shelter is? Well, let me tell you, your pet has 72 hours to find a new family from the moment you drop it off. Sometimes a little longer if the shelter isn't full and your dog manages to stay completely healthy. If it sniffles, it dies. Your pet will be confined to a small run/kennel in a room with other barking or crying animals. It will have to relieve itself where it eats and sleeps. It will be depressed and it will cry constantly for the family that abandoned it. If your pet is lucky, I will have enough volunteers in that day to take him/her for a walk. If I don't, your pet won't get any attention besides having a bowl of food slid under the kennel door and the waste sprayed out of its pen with a high-powered hose. If your dog is big, black or any of the "Bully" breeds (pit bull, rottie, mastiff, etc) it was pretty much dead when you walked it through the front door. Those dogs just don't get adopted. It doesn't matter how 'sweet' or 'well behaved' they are. If your dog doesn't get adopted within its 72 hours and the shelter is full in most cases, it will be destroyed. If the shelter isn't full and your dog is good enough, and of a desirable enough breed it may get a stay of execution, but not for long. Most dogs get very kennel protective after about a week, and are destroyed for showing aggression. Even the sweetest dogs will turn in this environment. If your pet makes it over all of those hurdles, chances are it will get kennel cough or an upper respiratory infection and will be destroyed because the shelter gets paid a fee to euthanize each animal, and making money is better than spending money to take this animal to the vet. Here's a little euthanasia 101 for those of you that have never witnessed a perfectly healthy, scared animal being "put-down". First, your pet will be taken from its kennel on a leash. They always look like they think they are going for a walk happy, wagging their tails. Until they get to "The Room", every one of them freaks out and puts on the brakes when we get to the door. It must smell like death or they can feel the sad souls that are left in there, it's strange, but it happens with every one of them. When it all ends, your pet's corpse will be stacked like firewood in a large freezer in the back with all of the other animals that were killed, waiting to be picked up like garbage. What happens next? Cremated? Taken to the dump? Rendered into pet food? Or used for the schools to dissect and experiment on? You'll never know and it probably won't even cross your mind. It was just an animal and you can always buy another one, right? I hope that those of you who still have a beating heart and have read this are bawling your eyes out and can't get the pictures out of your head, I deal with this everyday. I hate my job, I hate that it exists & I hate that it will always be there unless you people make some changes and start educating the public. Do research, do your homework, and know exactly what you are getting into before getting a pet. These shelters and humane societies exist because people just do not care about animals anymore. Animals were not intended to be disposable but somehow that is what they are these days. Animal shelters are an easy way out when you get tired of your dog (or cat), and breeders are the ones blamed for this. Animal shelters and rescue organizations are making a hefty profit by keeping this misconception going. Between 9 and 11 MILLION animals die every year in shelters (Humane Society of the United States estimates 3-4 million) and only you - as a pet owner can stop it. I just hope I maybe changed one persons mind about taking their dog to a shelter, a humane society, or buying a dog without researching. For those of you that care--- please re-post this to at least one other Craigslist in another city/state. Let's see if we can get this all around the US and have an impact. THINK before your selfishness begins to take over.1 point

And it's pretty sweet. My garage is already too small so i decided to build a second shed. It will store my bike, future track bike and my power tools that are lining the walls of the garage. This will also allow me to put my harbor freight folding trailer in the garage during winter. 10' x 8' with 7 1/2ft walls. 3/4" plywood flooring. I have to wait until next year to paint the trim and ramp to allow the pressure treated wood to dry out. Also waiting until next year to finish the landscaping. Still trying to figure out what kind of flooring to put down. Open to any suggestions. What i started with. $1700 for a concrete foundation. No thanks. 1200lbs of topsoil to level the ground out. Less than $100. Foundation done. Walls up. Everything within 1/4" square. My little helper aka the wife. Made my own trusses. Roof done and siding corners pieces up. Siding done. I matched it as close as i could. I think it's the color my house use to be. Electrical done. I installed a motion detection switch for the interior lights. Turns on when the doors open. Motion light installed outside. Fence removed and doors completed. Ramp built and fence relocated in final pic that was at the beginning of this thread.1 point

I'm so over the middle east. When is it someone else's turn to babysit? At this point, even wasting a cognitive thought about the entire region pisses me off. Bring them all home. Let those people deal with their problems as we have plenty of our own which need addressing.1 point

Geneva convention was written for protection of soldiers and civillians in a conventional battlefield. Those wars don't exist anymore. The rules are a good guideline, but it isn't as practical when part of the battle plans for today's wars is to de-legitimize the governing/invading force by any means necessary. Attacking aid workers, civilians, social structures, etc, and all in a manner that doesn't disclose who made the attack, but rather emphasizes that the government can't defend them. Everything is fair game to them. Long story short - insurgents are willing and able to target civilians with whatever means necessary to accomplish their goals. They don't give a shit about rules.1 point

Yup. We can't fix this unless we engage enough to DESTROY BOTH agressive parties. No way they are willing to do that. And we shouldn't be doing that anyways. It is not our fight. That area of the world will continue to kill each other until they grow out of their antiquated religion (Which isn't happening anytime soon). They are just finding more effective methods of killing each other now, and the media is telling you about every person that gets killed. We won't change anything by intervening. If anything, we'll create a vaccum like Iraq and fuck the situation up even more. Then we're responsible for the clean up. Not to mention re-aggravating the entire radical muslim world and putting us back into the center of the crosshairs.1 point

Who's innocent here? Who's using chemical weapons on who? You just said you don't know. So we should just willy nilly pick a side and start bombing? Mind you, the side our government has taken is with the same side the "terrorists" we've been fighting since September 11th have taken.1 point

Bless all those who get to hunt. even the immigrants, buy the tags, buy the guns, take the time. I saw a butt load of spanish (?) looking types two years ago out by the grand river. it was awesome. tons of kids were with them THATS how we keep the sport going- they'd hustle the kids out to get any birds that dropped. We barely got a shot due to the noise and scattered goings on with those kids, parents watching them, but who cares, it was good to see families going hunting. got to get out and get some dove this fall...mmmm mmmm good1 point

Saddam Hussein killed a million of his own people, invaded another country...broke 12 UN resolutions....used WMDs....and Obama and all the other anti-war lefties didn't feel this was justification. Kerry's push for this war is a nice added touch....as we all remember his famous support for Iraq..."I was for the war before I was against it."1 point

It was great to meet you and Laurie! I enjoyed talking and riding with the two of you! I did head out early. I was ready to see my girls. It was awesome riding. Feel free to message me if you are going to ride through Huber.1 point

good to meet you. You must have bailed early Sunday. Laurie and I ended up heading down to Ashland KY with the Canadians. Sandy and Tom ripped up Ohio 93. No traffic ensured the fast group had a green light all the way through. Except for the ubiquitous and ever present cop .....thankfully already engaged.... in Oak Hill we had a great ride Sunday after that spectacular Saturday loop. Thought about you on Monday as I came through Huber on the way to Tipp City and a stop and Mom's then on home to Muncie. Great weekend, great people ...really accomplished riding group.1 point

Went back to the Dr today, its growing back together. But it looks like another 2/4 weeks before I get back to work. On the bright side me and the little one have never spent so much time together. I'm getting really good at playing sick for the 3 year old Dr.1 point
