  1. So I got home Saturday afternoon from my ride with @DerekClouser and @whaler around 1:30 or so. Wife says, what are you doing back, its usually 6 or so when you go to SEO. Part of my answer was they were way faster than me and I didn't want to hold them up. And she says: "You should add a sportbike to the garage so you can roll with those people." Not what I expected, but I will certainly take it. Not so sure I am going to do it, but maybe. I am concerned about my back. It isn't 'bad' but it is borderline, I have to be careful with it to avoid trouble. Anyway, what should I get? Bad's VFR was my first thought, just to piss him off. But that is more than I would want to invest in a once in awhile bike plus it would need to have front suspension work to make it right for someone of my weight.

  2. Only as a leftover with big discounts. The press murdered it because it's hard to categorize. It's biggest flaw was the $16k msrp. Got mine with bags for $7k (slightly used). Not 1 regret. The big v4 is stupid good. It was perfect for the gap trip.

  4. FJR is a great bike, I miss mine. The new ones look awesome and seem to have the mods from the factory that folks were doing anyway with heated grips and cruise. ABS on my Gen II was kinda rough (large feeling pulses (on engagement when I first used it), but it was predictable with practice. I'm sure the new ones are better. Katie cried when I told her I wasn't getting another one after my accident. The factory top box is about a zillion bucks so I got a Shad with a Givi mounting bracket to the subframe, not mounted to flimsy tail section like the factory ones do. With the top box on, all our gear (pants and jacket each) and helmets in side cases were locked and dry when we got off. I liked it as a commuter bike with fully faring and windshield, riding in a sporting manner, and they are proven Iron Butt capable. The 230+ mile tank is great, something I really hate about my CBR is the crappy distance between gas stops.

  5. Everyone give @2talltim rep. His Tapatalk fires all kinds of notifications, which seems to piss him off while banned.

  7. Just found out I'm going to have another week of vacation to use. Would like to plan another trip on two wheels. Who's going, when are we going and where are we going?

  10. I wouldn't call it a sportbike exactly but the Ducati Multistrada is a helluva bike. Crazy fast motor but comfy enough for long trips. Lot of coin though... The Z1000 or more touring oriented Ninja 1K are good choices. Bubba, I had an FJR as well and I thought it was ok but never really gave me that special feeling. Plus, dealing with the fairings when doing oil changes, etc was a PITA. The little clips would fall off into the nether regions of the bike and made a simple task shitty. I kept it a year.

  11. I really, really liked the Multistrada. That motor just wants to GO. Even in tour mode, the front wheel threatened to loft in second gear just rolling on. Super nice bike! There was one Ducati model I wasn't allowed to ride...

  12. The only new bike that has me interested is the new FZ10. Cross plane R1 motor and electronic cruise control.

  13. For what Sport Touring bikes are designed for, they all do it really well. That's what makes it so hard to choose between them. I do find it odd the Honda ST has no love in the major reviews.

  14. No, not at all. That was just part of my explanation to my wife. I shortened the conversation with her for the purposes of the thread. You are pretty much stuck with me when you ride now.

  15. The Vfr1200 is more of a sport bike than the FJR or concourse. It has a slipper clutch, excellent stock suspension, amazing abs (no pulsing), and a fantastic V4. The N1K is a great choice also.

  16. If you're going to a Yamaha demo you might want to check out the FJ 09.If you're going to use it primarily for day rides the lighter weight might be a plus. But the FJR is also a great bike, especially for multi-day rides.

  19. Of course I am bias, but the FJR is a great bike. It is my first motorcycle that if i totaled today, I would go buy another.

  21. There are 100's of makers and opinions on who makes the best. What you need to know. 1) buy mil spec 2) don't buy a poly lower 3) don't take opinions from your coworker based on his hours of playing COD 4) because it costs more doesn't make it better 5) you don't absolutely have to have a dust cover and forward assist like your 395 pound neighbor that thinks he's a tactical operator says 6) no matter who's name is stamped on the lower and other parts they're all made in the same places. There's only a handful of factories that make lowers and bolt carriers and such. They just stamp names on them. Barrel length is decided by what you want to do with it. 16" is standard and a good do all length. You want long range get longer. I prefer 10". Stock, Grip and Forend are personal preference. Find what you like. I prefer Magpul stock and Forend and an Ergo grip Sights and optics are also personal preference. I use magpul flip sights and a Lucid optic. You just want an entry level play rifle to take to range and keep around the house, any off the shelf AR will work. You want one your way, building one is pretty easy. PSA offers many good combinations and very good prices for a good do all standard rifle. Go to the store and gun shows, handle them all and find the the things you like and dislike and go from there. I can order anything you want or build one for you from the parts you prefer also.

  35. I consider myself a very good rider maybe not a great rider and I have never spent a single min on a track. To me riding isn't about my line or how fast I am it's about the adventure and experiences. Like I said I know it's different strokes for different folks.

  36. This is the part I don't get. For the same money or less I can take off into mountians on a weekend and get a cheap hotel room and enjoy the scenery and different surroundings. Not going around the same corners over and over again. There is no doubt it's probably fun but I just don't thinks it's as nice as touring and being on the open road. Everyone has different taste and likes I guess.
