I completed the Counter Ambush Concepts class today instructed by Brian and Jason from Valkyrie Defense Group. I know there are a bunch of firearms guys on here and whether you have only completed your CCW class or believe you know everything there is to know about firearms, you will benefit from additional training from these guys. I found some flaws in my shooting techniques, and we also talked about some things I haven't thought about before. Brian and Jason were great! Seriously, I know everyone is busy, but you can make time to take some classes. I have been trying to take a class with them for about a year now, I finally got it done and I am glad I did. I will be back for more in the very near future. The class was about 6 hours, it was hot as hell outside, but it was great. So get off your asses, give Jason and Brian a call and get some training. For all you guys that took the CCW class in Mechanicsburg, that was a joke compared to the training provided by VDG. Actually I wouldn't even consider that training, that was simply paying an additional fee on top of the fee to get your CCW permit. You will learn 110% more in the first 2 hours of the CAC class than you did in the entire Mechanicsburg CCW class.2 points

Thanks I.P. - I guess after screwing with VFRs - my own and others, for 17years, you could probly say I know a few things VFR, even in the nasty pink spots.2 points

Hey oldschool --- I am probly the resident 5th gen VFR addict. I have ridden the 6th gens, but to me the VTEC sucks. Anyhoo - Its just me,but I look for the lowest mile, cleanest bike I can find. Then on the 5th gens, there were 2 versions, MK1 ('98s and'99s) and MK2 (00s and 01s). The MK1 have slightly larger headers and no cat, and a manual fast idle lever, and a tic more ponies over the MK2s. Also the Fi in the MK1s are an open loop system were the MK2s were a closed loop system. The weak link in any is the charging system sucks, but that can be fixed for a long life if you know what to do. Throwing it out there, the most coveted is a clean '99. The engines are essentially bullet proof, there are plenty of 100k mile examples. Maintenance is straight forward stuff, valve adjustments are generally check once over 32k miles and then forget it. Other stuff - Most guys upgrade the suspension, the stock is kinda soft and steers like a truck. After an upgrade, its a respectable corner carver. Then some guys like the linked brakes and some curse them, there are ways around that. (I installed RC51 brakes.) Really as a group, the thing is a blank canvas and the farkles will flow. Look at my albums for ideas. I would be happy to go check one out if you want to look at one. PM anytime.2 points

I appreciate the kind words @NinjaDocif I remember correctly your bike had some damage to it from your first group ride yet you were back out there trying again. That willingness will always be met with help as long as there is potential, some people shouldn't ride, and you weren't one of them. @jschaf is correct about the usual pace being intermediate trackday without the straights speeds. Every one of the guys that ride in the faster group is capable of leading the group and keeping everyone entertained and safe. They all are approachable and willing to help other riders with tips or techniques, some are even good at it. Speed is not the ultimate goal of a ride, having fun is. The slowest guy in the slow group and the fastest guy in the fast group should be having the same amount of fun or everyone is doing it wrong. Riding within your acquired skillset at an entertaining pace shouldn't put you or others in danger. Those skills come from several sources and take several years plus not all results are equal. Being one of the fast guys doesn't give you any virtue over anyone else. You can be fast and be an asshole so being fast isn't something that makes you better than others at all things in life. One of the guys that currently rides with the fast group was asked to leave one of these rides years ago because he didn't belong riding with the group he had chosen. If the group is doing its job this is how it should be. I hope he can retell the story but my take on it is that he was unsafe for others around him and to himself. That got fixed with time and him listening to others with more experience that were willing to help him. This ride will have the same opportunities for everyone to have fun and learn from others. I can guarantee that the fast group won't be going Mach Retard by their estimations even though it may seem that way to the less experienced riders. My recollection of the Mach Retard ride is similar to @jschaf in that it isn't how you ride in groups but rather on your own when you know that it isn't how you are supposed to ride on the streets. I went out one day on my own riding fast to clear my head and accidently ran across MidgetTodd and Hutch at a gas stop along with another rider. I told them clearly that they could ride with me but it wouldn't be a group ride and that they would be on their own. Long story short the guy that was riding with them wrecked and in some part I felt at fault because I knew better. Group rides have rules for a reason yet they can still be fun. I do ride with the fast group most of the time but by no means am the fastest rider. I have had a rider on this forum lose me so badly in nine miles that he was waiting for me with his helmet and gloves off when I finally made it to the stop. On our return trip down that road he was passed by an even faster rider. No matter how fast you are there is always someone faster which leads back to speed not being the ultimate goal or necessary for a good time. This clique thing is perplexing to me, having rode with and tried to help as many riders here that I can while also knowing many other riders that do the same thing I find the accusation without merit.2 points

Want to be a mod? Post up. The existing mods/admins will pick five people from this thread to throw up in a poll. Popular vote wins. Disclaimer: This is not a paid position. People will hate you. If you don't do enough, people will complain. If you do too much, people will complain. It's almost completely under appreciated. You may get spit on at events and called a nazi. You may suddenly develop a fetish for Lycra and bicycles. You may suddenly develop nosebleeds. No returns or exchanges. Cancellation at anytime should be expected.1 point

I was a big fan, but as the drivers I follow retire I just can't get into the new guys. I got hooked when Gordon was coming up. I met him at an event, and got a spin in his car in the parking lot. Also spent a fair amount of time at Pettty's shop. I used to sell the equipment they used to paint the cars.1 point

I don't think any thread should be locked ever. Maybe move it to Ranting and Raving but don't lock them. If the new crop of moderators need to lock threads and continue to post in them I want moderator power. I promise to behave myself, honest.1 point

Yup, so I read the epic ride thread. I just feel like if you guys are gonna stir shit up, it should be with more gusto, and you really should finish strong, not putter off into some lame "waaahhhhh take it to another thread" bullshit. No, you should finish where you entered. You always creampie. Nobody clicks on the creampie category and then bails out to facial. Nobody.1 point

Over moderator! I don't hang out here much anymore so forgive me if I'm not up to speed on any new rule changes. Is it a new OR thing that threads must remain on topic? This seems completely unOR.1 point

So I was browsing my points this evening and it looks as though I gave @DerekClouser a bad rep that i didn't know about. Must have been my Flintstone thumb while using my phone. Please accept my apology. BTW seems kinda silly I get bad reps in the political forum. MERICA!!!0 points
