  1. Second major ride in feejer, and decided to go 2 up. Last Friday since the weather was gorgeous and seeing the wide comfortable rear seat on the feejer, wife expressed her wish to join me for a short ride. Now she hasn't done that after we became parents. To be clear I am still talking about motorcycle riding. And so we scrambled to finish work earlier and off we went for a short 250ish mileloop. She thoroughly enjoyed the ride, the day was beautiful. Never needed extra breaks (hence less pics) and was able to cover many miles in short time and get home before Jr woke up from his ziesta. Handling of the bike was miles better than my first day with a run flat tire. Still need many more hundred miles on it. The suspension changes I made I wonder if it was worth it. I will never know since I went ahead and upgraded everything in winter itself thinking why have down time during our short riding season. Plus I was bored. Any ways here are some pics and a clean ride video with pure sound No tail on fire riding since we are 2 up but still some fun clips. Video: Surprisingly great chicken fries from a gas station. I always get it from there and make an excuse to stop here for fuel. Marathon 152/43 Of course the day finishes with a wash and got some extra little help

  2. My daughter and I rode close to 300 miles today and had a blast. We spent about 5.5 hours on the bike. I think we will have a blast on our Tail of the Dragon trip this summer. After I talked to her about not trying to lean the bike and just to remain neutral we got pretty comfortable. I don't think the Q3s enjoyed the ride as much as us. I'm hoping with some extra preload added the next time they may not get as chewed up. Time will tell.

  5. Loved the Vstrom, great all around bike, for commuting and exploring back roads. Its capable of moderate trail rides and aggressive but its not good at either. If you are interested in more aggressive road riding then you should look at a sportier bike than the Vstrom. As mentioned the SV650 is probably going to be a good choice. Sporty enough for the track but comfortable enough for distance. Same basic engine as the Vstrom also. Im about your size and started on a Ninja 250 and don't regret it. The light weight and moderate power make it easy to learn to ride. You can wring the engine and throw it through corners without as much danger as the much faster bikes. Buy used and you can sell when something more interesting catches your eye for not much loss. I think I broke even on mine and that was trading it in on the next bike after riding a year and 7000 miles. Since your are tall another option for fun but easy to ride bike is a dual sport or supermoto. Currently I have a DRZ400SM. This style of bike doesn't have the top speed of the multi-cylinder bikes but on tight roads can be ridden very aggressively. The dirtbike style riding position is less cramped than the sportier bike. And if you drop the bike while doing stupid stuff at low speeds, you just laugh it off and pick up the bike, vs crying over scratched and broken fairings, turn signals and levers on sport bikes.

  6. Well time to officially announce I am back riding again. Had some issues to work out and get in order...meh adulting sucks. I no longer have to ninja 250 I purchased a former members 2006 CBR 600f4i. If anyone wants to meet up and ride on the weekends or after 6pm weekdays hit me up.

  7. now we feel less guilty that he was left out on the fun day hahaha but i think he was having a ball with the form and bubbles, literally Thats an impressive feat, and sharing a mototrip together will be the best way to reward yourself. I strongly recommend being connected via intercom which really enhances the experience as well as boost the safety factor. Also makes travel on two wheel way more easier together. No more crappy hand signals. thanks J, wish i was living where u live. then i dont have to waste time editing out so much boring long sessions. i have a feeling you will always be a strong yammie boy step up to an FJR will be the first step to 2 up travel bliss.

  8. Love my abs, saved me a few times. Including this weekend when a fat assed pheasant walked out in front of me hard over into a corner and I freaked and grabbed a handful of brakes.

  9. Dan is now riding a 250, and as you know he knows how to ride a bike fast. Honda's 500s are not really small bikes. They are more comfortable for a tall rider than any supersport I have tried. Similar to the SV. The CB500X is even more open. If you want a sporty bike the ergos are going to be pretty tight. Sure some people enjoy riding a couch at mach retard but that is not what everyone wants nor should you start there. Don't plan on your first bike being your last bike. Nearly everyone goes through multiple bikes and few regret the experience. Buy used, figure out what you like and dont like and upgrade.

  11. Nice video footage Doc, me and the mrs are trying to get more seat time together as well. We used to go everywhere on the bike when we were first married, then the little ones came and that all went out the window. Now the kids are getting older and we are starting to get back in the saddle together, talking about longer rides and potential future trips. Nice to see you incorporated the little one into cleaning duty for pops!

  13. I live in the country and still would rather not commute on the bike. To suit up for a 11 mile ride seems like a waste and then I have to stow my lunch bucket on the bike and then get to work and stow my gear. Fuck that. The bike is for enjoyment not to ride to a place I don't want to be in the first place. I put 10k plus a year on the bike and almost never ride to work.

  14. I'm saying get what he "wants" and grow into it. He already said he wanted and naked or a sport bike. Why would a guy go buy something he dosnt want just because it's more commuter friendly? We are talking size and power of a bike here I thought, not style. He's already decided the style he wants.

  15. get as many cylinders as you can, pull plug wires to restrict it if it's too powerful.

  16. NICE Doc!! I'm trying to get the wife on the Connie with me this year. She has her own bike and likes to ride but I'd like to take her out too for a few spins. We have always had to ride separate bikes because we were just flat out too heavy to two up before. But with loosing 185lbs between the both of us we would now be able to do it this year.

  17. I appreciate that you made it a whole family event by having the little guy wash the bike after you and the wife went for a ride.

  19. Glad you and the wife got out Doc. Maybe next time our schedules will work to where we can meet up. It's awesome right now to ride with my daughter. I'm still amazed that at 14 she still likes to spend to with her dad. I keep telling my wife that at some point she is going to think I'm just a boring old man that knows nothing and she'll want little to do with me. For now though I'm going to enjoy the times we have until she meets some teenage punk like I was that she will be more interested in than me.
