  1. I recently purchased a 2017 Yamaha FZ10 and have ridden in it approximately 1400 miles in the last 10 days. I rode in South Florida on interstates and back roads. Since the terrain is relatively flat there are very little twisty roads or sweepers to challenge the handling of bikes. In the last ten years I have owned a 2005 Yamaha FZ1 (Gen 1), 2006 Yamaha FZ1, 2008 Yamaha FZ1, 2014 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 and now the 2017 Yamaha FZ10. Mods: MRA Racing Screen Windscreen, yoshimura fender eliminator, sliders and monkey grips. The ergonomics of the FZ10 are more compact than the FZ1 and very similar to the Kaw Ninja 1000. I like being more compact with these types of bikes. You sit more into the bike. The power of the FZ10 seems to have more torque that the FZ1, probably due to the crossplane engine technology. One very big difference of the FZ10 is the smoothness of the engine and the ride. There is very little vibration of the handlebars and the seat. It is very stark difference compared to the other bikes. It may be the most significant advantages of the FZ10 compared to the other bikes. Handling of the FZ10 seems much better than the FZ1, the balance on corners is very good. But, as I said Florida is not a true test of bike handling. The electronics of the FZ10 include ABS and traction control which is very similar to the Kawi Ninja 1000 that has the same goodies. The FZ10 has cruise control and it is amazing. It is very accurate and is sweet to have on long rides, allowing me to travel farter between stops. The FZ10 is a naked bike compared to the other bikes, so after being beaten up by the wind in my chest I had to install a short windshield which made a considerable difference. The gas tank on the FZ10 is only four gallons versus 4.4 gallons for the FZ1. Bigger is better, I like having the extra fuel capacity of the FZ1. One issue I have with the FZ10 is the colors available in the USA. The color choices are shiny gray or flat gray. If you don’t like gray you are out of luck. The other bikes compared have colors I like, metallic red, candy Kawasaki green, which I really like. They do offer a blue FZ10 in Europe I really like and hope they bring it stateside in the next couple years. In conclusion, comparing the FZ10 and the Ninja 1000 is a true test because both have electronics and I have to take the FZ10 for the smoothness of the bike. As I stated earlier, this puts the FZ10 ahead of the rest of the bikes because it is so significant.

  2. The closer you get to the pointy end the harder it is to shave time. You will more than likely hit a wall around the 1:42 range. These are fun to get through.

  7. Our theory is that cutting 180 to 90 isn't 50 percent 180 and 50 percent 0. It's more like 80 percent 180 and 20 percent 0. So we ran the first distill down to 20 proof...and now the second time with the fancy electric one is being more precise.

  8. It hasn't dropped at all, so it still should be the head. But it sure is the biggest head I have ever seen outside if my pants. This is our first time double distilling, so there things at play here we have not figured out.
