@jacobhawkins and I are putting together a kart day on 1/28 if anyone is interested. We are planning on checking out the "super track" they run on Sundays at the gas karts on the east side town right off of 70. They have 2 tracks at this place right next to each other that are normally separate, except for Sunday when they link the two together to make a longer, more complex layout. It seemed fun. Current plan is: Meet at GPK Columbus at 2pm on Sunday, 1/28 I will be purchasing the 3-race package ($60), everyone else is free to do what they want We should be done with karts by around 4PM. At this time we will head to the Columbus Brewing Company Restaurant for food and drinks - I will make reservations once we have a solid number of people planning to attend (the cost of all food/drink/kart tickets are each individual's responsibility) Website: http://www.gpkcolumbus.com/ Post up if you'd like to attend. Friends and family are welcome... they have mini-karts for little kids (toddler age). Currently we have 4 confirmed, and 1 maybe.1 point

I won't argue that it's still a good deal. I just hate to see a discrepancy between product advertised and product delivered, especially from a company that's always been incredibly great to work with like riders discount.1 point

That's weird. I can understand space limitations and what not but if I were a dealer for a certain brand I would want to carry at least one example of each model that brand offered. Doing otherwise seems like bad business.1 point

Not sure we can get a group rate without knowing the # of people attending. They are open Noon-8pm on Sundays. I figure if we do the 3-race package we would be done in 2 hours or so. If we got there at 2pm we would be done by 4 or so, could get to CBC (or wherever) by 4:30 or 5 and then people are free to do whatever they want. Do those times work for everybody?1 point

I've got a bunch of people interested in going but need to know times. Has anyone called to see if we can get a group rate? Also if we're going to do beer and wings afterwards, we might want to start early since it's a Sunday and most of us have to work on Monday. That said, I have no idea what their Sunday hours are but stoked to race on the big track!1 point

Maybe I'll start an on-going "Hey, I'm going to be at this track with this organization this weekend" thread.... that way people can go in there and just say hey, this weekend I'll be up at PIRC, feel free to pit next to us type deal.1 point

Thanks very much for this insight. I know no one that's undertaken a project like that. I've got many friends in the industry, construction, electric, plumbing, etc that have already agreed to help me out for a drastically reduced cost. Resell value is killin this idea for me, especially when dropping that kind of coin. Maybe I should look around the market to see if sheeple are selling their polebarn style residence. *strokes non-existent beard*1 point

That's what my friend I bought my current house did right next-door. it turned out beautiful but beware, you don't think so but it ends up costing as much as a regular house and you have no basement. Also, if you're going to do it in Ohio you better heat that concrete floor or it's never going to be warm. he has about $180,000 in his not including the land. And he did most of the work himself besides the shell, electrical, Hvac and the concrete. We ran the 10 miles of heated floor pipe. He started in 15 and it's just now getting to a point where you could say it's done. And in the end it's not worth as much as a conventional house. Just a heads up that a lot more goes into a pole barn house than people think.1 point

with few exceptions, American cars have become unimaginative econo-appliances that people used to rag on the Japanese cars for being. Many are boring or straight up horrible to drive. i do love my f150 though. No doubt, there’s a big gap between American trucks vs the rest. Although I hear Mercedes has an x class truck now? Lol horrible.1 point

Not gonna tell you to NOT buy a house since I've been a homeowner since 1972 and am on my 4th. However... Based on your intro to the above "story" and reading between the lines of "never bothered buying house without shame" and "no maint, no lawns to mow, etc" I have to posit the serious question as to why you simply don't move and find a different/better rental? Or for that matter, have a frank discussion about your concerns with your landlord(s) and point out that reliable stable, long-term renters are a precious commodity for any owner/landlord, and your move would necessitate an energy- and time- and money-consuming process for them to find a suitable replacement tenant. Even though mortgage rates aren't that bad currently, it is definitely a seller's market and you'll most likely pay top dollar for something nice on the market right now. A house CAN BE--and certainly has historically been--a decent ROI that keeps pace with or outpaces inflation, but they also require a serious time/energy commitment to maintain as well as the willingness to stay put and ride out market dips, possibly for a period of many years, in order to make a profit on the eventual sale. I'm not convinced that you'll see home values appreciating as rapidly over the next 10-20 years compared to historical values. There are MANY GOOD THINGS about home ownership that have value to the owner that aren't necessarily "quantifiable" in your financial net worth statement, but you will be forced to make certain sacrifices to enjoy those.1 point
