  2. I'll try to get a belated 'build thread' going and toss up some photos. I had it mocked up a few weeks ago just to get an idea on some things. Had to tear everything back down as the frame needs some machining to fit the R6 swinger and shock.

  4. Don't forget to set aside an easy $500 or more for GOOD protective riding gear.....making your bike budget more like $3k-$3500

  5. I’m lucky to live right in the middle of the area a lot of you fellas ride hours to get to. For me it’s a Saturday or Sunday departure south at daylight. Almost always 0 traffic. Home for lunch.

  6. Think you about covered it all. So the my answer to all of those things is, YES. It is all of those things. Every trip is different for me. 'm looking for that "Ahhhhhh" moment when all the cares in the world are gone and it's just you your machine and nothing else. Sometimes I find that on a trip around the block. Sometimes it's on a winding mountain road. Sometimes it's walking into a road side motel room after a great days ride. But I always find it.

  7. Toss me on the list if you could! Never been to a track day yet. Currently have a track bike being built and should be complete here in about a month. Aprilia framed, banshee powered 2 stroke. Would love to annoy the shit out of everybody with it.

  13. Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you're going about things the right way with learning via the MSF course.

  14. Welcome..and there are plenty of fat kids on sport bikes around here, including myself. I'm more of a fat old man on a fat old man sport bike though.

  15. That is so badass! Same 1st bike I got when I was 7. Would kill to still have it. I would clean it up and put it on display. I'd figure out a way to hang it on the wall or park it in the corner of the living room, duct taped seat and all!

  17. For me the perfect day ride is a twisty route of 200-300 miles on nearly new, clean pavement. But the thing that really makes for a great ride is when you're in the zone...hitting entry speeds perfect, shifting nice and smooth at the right rpm,the right lines that allow rolling on through the curves....basically just feeling at one with the bike and road. And to top it all off,a nice fall day when the trees are at peek color. Like a fisherman that remembers that big bass...those are the days that keep me riding. You never know when you'll land another one.

  18. New rotors transferred the original wheel. Those T40 bolts were a pain to get out, impact to the rescue. Marvin is a good helper.

  19. My idea of a great day trip is several hours of twisty roads, some good grub, and bringing it all home in one piece.

  20. When I can I like to go out on group rides. Usually, the first leg is about 3 hours with a stop for lunch. After lunch, we take the long way home. More often when there isn't an organized ride I just head NE out of Cbus until I get tired or bored. Sometimes those ad hoc rides are great and sometimes my route choice sucks. I'm too old for the "mach retard with no stops and scarf down a roller dog while pumping gas" trips.

  21. I had a great time last year Sam, and most of the chafing, rashes and infections went away by week three, so I'm in again for this year. I can make most Saturdays work, so no need to plan around me. Maybe I'll do something different this year and haul that new trials bike up for some driveway giggles. We can measure your balance after each dortmunder as a scientific study.

  23. I had a z50 of the same color & probably the same year when I was a lad. It was great fun. I do remember getting the rear portion of the frame welded up on a regular basis due to the jumps & lack of rear suspension. I had my heart set on something with a 5 HP Tecumseh engine on it at the time, but I think my dad got the Z50 for me because it was only 2 HP. The 3 speed transmission was a big plus for a rider in training though. Pretty durable little bike. Kudos for still having yours,

  25. Saturdays are good. Your homebrew is excellent. Whatever flavors you want to make I'm sure will be great. The food last year was excellent as well. Great to get out & chat with some fellow riders. I'll ride my bike this year so I'll have earplugs for the mullet rock. If anyone has missed this so far you've missed out on a good time. If you decide to come don't forget to bring CA$H for Sam as he puts a lot of money & time into getting this thing together.

  28. Fell hard snowboarding at Holiday Valley on Sat. Racing some friends on bordercross. Caught a front edge and got thrown down very hard. Sharp shoulder pain, tried to ski it off for couple hours and gave up at lunch time. Went to urgent care today after not feeling better this morning. Figured i just pull muscles or something. Ended up fracturing my scapula (shoulder blade). Found out that it's quite hard to do that and first time that provider has ever seen it. Have an early appointment tomorrow with a orthopedic specialist. Hoping no other injuries.
