  1. There is some truth to what @NinjaDoc says, there are times when it is useful. I paired up with @ricer1 once, we were southbound on 148. At the very beginning of our run down it we caught this super slow old lady, I got a break with a straight to get around her but John got caught behind her. I was able to gap her and call back to John when it was clear for him to corner pass her. Going back to my comment earlier about shooting people that pair with me. I would like to point out that the very next day after that ride John was dead. True story.

  2. You guys, dont worry, I'll get a sena and I will change nivin's mind for him. He will tear his comm unit out after 12 minutes of off tune Journey between the "oooohhh neat house" and "oops, I'm supposed to brake"

  3. Ed, to be honest i am not with this motomacho men crowd on this one. One of the best investment was getting coms/ esp for me when riding two up. plus makes group riding safer and fun for me. Used to ride a lot with a late friend always linked up. It was another layer of safety, calling out stuff on blind corners, way more safer to make passes, easier to make last minute plan changes as needed, real time learning/ correcting riding, lines, feedback etc without having to stop take helmet off and waste time etc. to me motorcycling and by association group ride should be fluid and graceful like dancing, following the beat and modulating modifying and changing the rhythm or route or stop etc on the flow. Comms give you that freedom, for eg: on a pre planned route you see some new exciting road, you feel like trying it, ask the guys on com, instant yes or no and booms its done. it cannot be like a military regimen and parade, i mean it can be but kind of looses the fun part a bit. that is feeling of freedom and flexibility. Just following a pre planned rouTe to the T etc is okay and good but not exactly great. But different strokes for different folks i guess i will unfollow this thread before they gonna kill me with ridiculously funny and probably true counter arguments and puns. I dont even know why i typed all that above. I know they are never going to link up ever in a group ride haha

  5. I made a boneheaded move on 88 myself. Let’s just say I made a 3rd lane to complete my pass. I settled down a bit after that.

  8. I am not anti-comm. I am anti-not being alone in my helmet. On a big trip? Maybe. On a 300 mile cannonball run? Not interested. Besides, if I do make a poor decision and smack into the side of a truck, nobody wants to hear me die in their helmet. Except Jinu, but he has weird fetishes.

  10. Nah.. just a little excitable. I think it was the matching helmets. You didn't miss it. You blatantly skipped it.

  11. I think I'm pretty resistant lol . Thanks for the welcome tho! Thanks! It's very fun bike to ride. I'm 5"7 and I have no problem with the Duke. You can also adjust height of the bike a bit to, lower it.

  12. If you aren't willing to pass in corners on 250, then you just aren't going to get anywhere. The entire road is a corner. That said, all of my passes were well within the reasonable limits of illegal passing...if that even comes close to sounding sane. The last one was bad, but it wasn't terrible. I was more ashamed of scaring the drivers than I was afraid for my safety. I got excited and made a bad call. I corrected my behavior and went back to appropriately passing like an adult should. The only real OSM was on WV-7. We were getting down and I rounded a right hand bend that straightened just as a tractor/trailer was being escorted across the road to a parking area on the other side. I laid into the front brakes and the bike stopped right now. Traction control and ABS are legit as fuck. I am a believer as of that incident. The "Safety Pack" saved my Bologna.

  13. To answer your original question, everyone knows the route, or at least the way to the next stop. Except Tony. And we wait at each turn. Comms are not needed.

  14. I just wipe mine down with kerosene on a rag. It works best if the chain is warm but I don’t always do that. It depends on if I catch it right after a ride or after I clean the bike. I spray it down with maxim chain wax. I stole this procedure from @Helmutt years ago. I typically get 15 to 20,000 miles out of a chain using this procedure. I typically clean and lube every 500 miles or so.

  15. I think it is pretty well known around here that I carry a gun and will shoot anyone that tries to pair their Sena to mine.

  16. Haha the passes were crazy lol total hooliganism. I was literally expecting cops at the end of 250 waiting for us with hand cuffs 🤣 To be honest there is no other way to do 250 I think without those passes. The group size and experience was perfect for this ride and pace. Hopefully one more of these before winter hits us. reminded me of old Mach retard rides. Paul and Jinu used to do this, pass and jinu like a shadow right behind. Same thing you and durk were doing today. At first I could see from behind skinny gear in head working like “should I ... should I not “ after few secs, ..... wild side switched on 😆

  17. I am always apprehensive about posting rides, but the last two have gone really well. I hope to see that trend continue and this forum start building momentum. To answer your mileage question... we just got down to the business of hauling ass. I passed more vehicles today than I probably have in one day around these parts...most of which happened leaned over in a corner. The Hyper is agile and fast, which lends itself to making space where space normally doesn't exist. I started to get greedy towards the end of my ride and, after a pass that I should have waited for, I decided to dial it back a click before I got into trouble. I knew I blew it as I started to roll on the throttle, but it was too late to change my mind and I gave it everything to slip back into my lane. It was a dumb mistake that I was fortunate enough to forgive myself for and carry on. I had zero expectations for today. I just wanted to get out and enjoy the opportunity to ride. I had not intended on moving as fast as we were, but everything felt right and you guys didn't seem to mind the pace. I got to know this bike pretty well on my WV trip with @Tpoppa and @Blitz. I am just running on the same mojo I found that weekend. I know all three of you can ride faster than I can. I appreciate you allowing me to take point and just route on the fly. I wish you had stayed with us, Nivin..but I understand why you were anxious. It was the first ride for me with @durk and I sure hope it wasn't the last. I had a great time with you guys and we should do it again before it gets too cold. Nice to know we can hit WV and back in a matter of hours. @Skinny guy, always a pleasure to hang out with you. I will catch you all another time.

  18. Dayum should have sticked with you guys. Are you sure Only 320 for you guys?? I was thinking you guys prolly would have gone till afternoon seeing that we dipped into WV. I would definitely have completed the loop if I knew 3ish return time. Heck I did 260 exploring around long way back. But all in all, I am happy I got to get out today. And thx again Pauly for posting this up. Esp at earlier time which forced me to start early after a loooong time, missed catching the sun rises while on motorcycle. Today was perfect day. Nice to see durk again. Skinny we gonna ride at least once again before winter I am sure.

  20. That might be Blitz's old Tuono 😶 I wouldn't touch an Aprilia made before 2016 btw. Maintenance nightmare from everything I've read.
