  1. Most of the "one bike only" per parking spot thing is for city parking meters. That way they know who gets the ticket and there's no argument about it. Otherwise, a ticket for more than one motorcycle in a spot. edit: see John's post #36, I am completely wrong. Multiple motorcycles are allowed at a meter. (Columbus) Besides, can you park a sidewalk on a motorcycle? Need to know... edit: and I agree, when I see narrow hashed lines at the end of rows, it looks like motorcycle parking to me. Since it looks almost the same as real motorcycle parking I've seen many places. I parked in what looked like motorcycle spots, that were straight and not angled, in front of a Target store and got a lot of dirty looks. Dunno... looked like motorcycle parking to me. The spaces were just right for motorcycles.
  2. On the ground in Kessennuma City when the tsunami hit. BBC link. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-12722026 And they still haven't found four of the commuter trains with people. Gone.
  3. I'm still amazed that adding a second bike only cost me about 20 bucks, and then they gave it back with a multi-vehicle discount. Liberty Mutual. Liability only.
  4. Just noticed my threads posted are bridging to FaceBook, and I don't even have a FaceBook bridge set up in ORdN. This started recently. I R confused... I'd rather shut it off, but there is nothing to shut off. Should I blame me? FaceBook? or Casper? Or combinations thereof. edit: just noticed it's not an OR bridge, it's an RSS Graffiti bridge. Still no clue...
  5. From Clutch & Chrome, this article about the new rider and bad choices. Ten Things New Riders Do Completely Wrong <--click link 1. Giving in to peer pressure. 2. Riding beyond their limits. 3. Not reading the road. 4. Not following maintenance schedules. 5. Running out of gas. 6. Dehydration. 7. Riding into exhaustion. 8. Misjudging corners. 9. Not taking a motorcycle safety course. 10. Finding new things to do on a motorcycle. Please notice that even an experienced rider error, will likely be on this list.
  6. Good BBC videos of the explosion and results, on the AlJezeera English channel: edit: Containment pressures are out of control at seven reactors at two locations now. They will begin venting radioactive gas and steam to try and lower the pressures. Monitoring of radiation levels outside the facilities show Cesium, which means that some of the fuel rods are melting. The reason that is bad, is that the fuel rods wind up as a puddle at the bottom. Then there is no control of the nuclear reaction. The result is a continuous build up of heat, until it is hot enough to melt through the bottom of the reactor and into the ground below.
  7. The explosion was from a build up of hydrogen gas. The zone around that one has been increased to 20 kilometers. http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/asiapcf/03/12/japan.nuclear/
  8. Scrammed, yes, but still struggling to reduce the core temperatures. The power for the pumps of the cooling systems failed at most of the reactors. And the worst one just exploded the outer concrete containment shell. Watch the explosion here - CNN There is no fear of a meltdown, since these are not fast breeder reactors like the one at Chernobyl. But they will have to cool them down and quickly. They have started pumping sea water into some of the buildings for cooling. And there has been a fair amount of radiation released to the local areas surrounding the worst of the reactors. One reactor now has cleared everyone out of a zone of 10 kilometers around it. edit: 83,000 people live within the 10kilometers around the two worst cases. edit: two reactors have cleared a 10k zone, and the one that exploded increased to 20k.
  9. Actually, with the need for revenue being the way it is, I'd hesitate to try my luck with anything that might get me a fine, fee, or penalty. Times have changed.
  10. I used to do that all the time. I haven't tried it lately. There are some new laws/rules for downtown Columbus that do not allow motorcycles and scooters parking on the sidewalk anymore. So now I don't know. I doubt it was ever legal, but was never enforced much. I did always try to keep it out of the way of the pedestrians.

  12. Yes, after a major event like this, there will be several days of settling down and adjusting along the fault line. Like they said, there was a 7.1 or something a couple of days before, and in 1 in 20 of those, it's a precursor to a "big one". This time it was.
  13. ehh, I remember... but I didn't like the Hondels. Or the Beach Boys much either. The Ventures were pretty good though. "Pipeline", one of the first songs I learned to play on an electric guitar.
  14. Found this: The Five Best Motorcycle Songs at allaboutbikes.com 5. “The Other Kind,” by Steve Earle 4. “Ghost Rider,” by Rush 3. “Motorcycle Cowboy,” by Merle Haggard 2. “Born to be Wild,” by Steppenwolf 1. “The Motorcycle Song,” by Arlo Guthrie And in the posts I see Richard Thompson's "1952 Vincent Black Lightning". I sort of remember that one. I'm going to have to try and find it. Ehh, folk song... I'd rather listen to Arlo Guthrie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lCH5JgWCZY
  15. Casper's post #26 was reported to be houses floating out to sea and on fire. Here's another view of them: http://d.yimg.com/a/p/rids/20110311/i/ra29459898.jpg?x=400&y=272&q=85&sig=uOoFIJ.OHhTK35bQdo50hQ-- http://d.yimg.com/a/p/rids/20110311/i/r2036600403.jpg?x=400&y=269&q=85&sig=ieThguDiK4YlzBVdv7ffPA-- This photo impressed. The 20-30 foot tsunami initially coming on shore. From this angle it can be seen a bit better, how tall it is, where it hits the trees. http://d.yimg.com/a/p/rids/20110311/i/r1965558651.jpg?x=400&y=254&q=85&sig=ZfTSnGwtVEUvZ9Jw7pelJg--

    HindSight...

I was just realizing that if I had taken my disbursed Rockwell IRA account and invested it all in Apple stock in the 90s, I'd now have around 7 million dollars... Isn't hindsight wonderful? If You Bought Apple Stock Instead of Products
  18. A part of the storm is slowly revolving around Columbus. But we might be dodging the bullet, it's too warm for snow yet. It's all been rain so far. And temperatures will only fall to around 32F. There's a reasonable chance that not much snow will accumulate, but that means we'll have ice in the morning instead.
  19. Ok, a historical footnote on knife fighting. And one of the main reasons that Bowie blades are outlawed everywhere for carry. Bowie knife fighting used to be very popular. Briefly. Whether skilled or unskilled in knife fighting, the participants generally both die. Unlike a gunshot wound, which generally is stable untill receiving aid or hospital care, the knife wounds bleed out quickly, and it's too late to render aid. Yeah, I read a lot.

Wow, is that what those are worth now? They were $148 last time I looked. Ok that was a while ago. And that was the short barrel price, mis-marked on the long barrel. Long barrel was supposed to be $158 at discount. Cha-ching. The 8 3/4" barrel is nice with a 2.5x scope. If you have the full vented full heavy barrel shroud, you can get a full vented shroud without the heavy barrel lug underneath, and mount the scope on that. Or vice versa. Changing the shroud then puts the scope on. The feel and weight and balance stays close to the same between the two setups. Friends used to say that the cylinder wasn't beefy enough. Too weak. I say the cylinder is forged not cast. Plenty strong enough.
  21. Agreed. But I think most heavy riders aren't willing to wait a few hours to accelerate to see what that top speed is. edit: I went with the 120mph since it's a nice round number and the internetz seems to think a 250 will do it. None of my small bikes ever did. I was lucky to get 95mph. I do remember going up one tooth in the front on a small bike, it actually went slower. It didn't like that at all.
  22. Wait a few years and go to a reunion. They will have no clue who you are.
  23. -1 in the front is plenty on a small displacement bike, and easy to change back. If it's 16T going to 15T, that's 1/16 less top end. If it could do 100mph, you'd reduce it 6.25 mph. Best stock top speed could be anywhere from 80 to 120 mph, depending on the weight of the rider.
  24. Doubt it was a meth lab. That would have left a small mushroom cloud in the area...
  25. Reported by people Monday. Loud boom and shaking. But nothing found anywhere. http://www.10tv.com/live/content/local/stories/2011/03/07/story-newark-mystery-boom.html?sid=102 Now the semi weird part, the same thing happened back in Feb 2007, and some blamed a meteorite. http://astronomy.activeboard.com/forum.spark?aBID=58381&p=3&topicID=10331934
