It's possible to get 30mpg from a chevy small block. But the harder you try, the more it costs in mods. Basically it's making improvements to the torque output. A real nice hot spark, headers with a big bore single exhaust, edelbrock manifold... you know, stuff... oh and a very good air filter. Maximum air flow at all times. I second checking the oxygen sensor. If it's old, big improvement replacing it. edit: I've actually gotten a small improvement just re packing the wheel bearings...

308 or 30-06. Basically the same cartridge, one shorter and one longer. 308 was developed for the military because 30-06 wasn't able to do auto load or machine gun very well. I think country folk like 30-06 and city folk like 308.

True story. Brittany Morrow. http://www.myspace.com/brit2morrow http://www.rockthegear.org/ The original story from her. http://www.myspace.com/brit2morrow/blog/441523494 What isn't said. Regardless of wind gust or speed, the rider was speculated to have been at 100mph and accelerating when it happened. I've had passengers try to fall off the back. Most had fallen asleep. When it happens, hit the brakes quick and put them back where they belong. Their instinct is to grab hold. The rider rides. The passenger follows. The rider in charge holds two lives in their hands.

Application security can, and should be turned back off when not needed. If an update to an Amazon app comes up, turn the permissions back on first. I had one this morning and it bombed because of that. It will try again. Oh, and I've heard that if you uninstall the Amazon app/store thingy, the apps downloaded with it might not work right.

Did someone say Waffle House? For the early birds?

That there notice on dur windshield that said: "Don't get out of the car."

I usually wait till the apps and plugins get upgraded to work with. I miss them if they aren't there. Hardly worth upgrading if they aren't available.

Haven't tried FF4 yet. I'll load it up and see.

I once got over on my side on a freeway, so far over that I was thinking I would start dragging the foot peg on the side of the bike. I stopped. I was probably right. I've been pushed over anywhere from one foot to 4 foot, on freeways from wind gusts. It can be sudden. Especially the little quick one foot over shifts. I don't like it at all, since it feels like the front wheel just skipped or slid over. It's hard to say whether the bike will lean or move over, when hit by a cross wind.
-
Yes. Yes it can. But the rider has to let it happen. Both a sudden wind gust or continuous side winds can do it. Or even a change of direction of the bike, especially when it was a tail wind previously. The way to avoid it is to reduce the road speed to lower the forces involved, create more time to react, and reduce the strength needed to wrestle with the bike. In a straight line, like on a freeway, the side wind will lean the bike over, while the wheels remain pointed straight ahead. To keep it stable that way, a lot of force has to go on the handlebars. And it isn't in the direction you would think is natural. That uneasy feeling can lead to a decision to turn the other way to right the motorcycle. That will put the bike on it's side instead. In a corner, the sudden introduction of a side wind can push the bike off the road. That's what happened to these three guys in Kansas... Wind may have played role in fatal motorcycle crash

If I remember right, the Windows Movie Maker that comes with winXP will do it. I use afterdawn.com for video software http://www.afterdawn.com/software/search/results.cfm?q=avi%20converter Somewhere on this list is a converter worth using. I don't know which one, it's been a while since I've tried conversions. Some of these will watermark the video, unless it's purchased. But some will be free converters.

DoidX. I got one. One of the guys here threw his droidX across the room at me. It didn't bother it at all when it hit the wall and floor. They don't snap in half. I got the double sided hard shell case. I know I can be rough at work. I ran over one phone with a powered floor lift.

Ethical: currently vogue is the discussion of accessing information about others, through use of the internet. Prospective job seekers certainly search information about potential employers, but what of employers searching for information about prospective hires, through use of the internet? Other ethical: At what level would a person be wise not to friend somebody on facebook? Boss vs workers? Teacher vs student? What ethical limits apply to internet behavior between peoples, Facebook being a primary example. Legal: The US federal government certainly wants an open and free internet, at least until it grows and matures. At what point does the government step in and regulate behavior of it's people? Never? What are the limits of society? Other legal: We know the federal government says there is no sales tax on internet purchases without a storefront presence within a given state. But several states have decided to try and collect sales tax anyway. Are they right or wrong in doing so? Or does it even matter? What of the majority of states that do not try to charge? Notice you are required to draw your own conclusions... And yes, I taught college classes...

Most bikes can't handle it. You need about 10amps minimum for spark, which is 120 watts at 12v. Headlight 55w, brakelight 30-40w, other lights 20-40w. Nothing left over for much more than electric gloves. Electric vests and pants can draw 100w each or more. So bikes with 500watt output and higher will do it all. That would be serious touring bikes. It's hard to find info on alternator output. Usually have to dig through the service manual to find it. Basic bikes have maybe around 250watts output. My bike has 380watts, enough to run most of the heated gear, but not all. And probably not on maximum heat. Yes, when your rpms drop, the alternator can't keep up the high output. Alternator outputs are usually rated at 3000rpm and higher. Most bikes won't even charge the battery at less then 3000rpm.

The symptom is lack of idle fuel, but a vacuum leak will do the same thing. Too much air at idle, and only noticeable at idle. Neither one will particularly stall the bike, just make it run rough and sort of bogged down at idle. I hate to ask the obvious, but what happens if you raise the idle? Also, are the spark plugs of the correct type. Cold plugs will stall a bike at idle. edit: ok, one more. Is there an adequate flow of fuel. If the tank isn't venting properly, it will tend to stall after stopping when you were previously moving. But won't stall if started and just sitting there. I'd try riding it carefully with the tank cap open, but I wouldn't do it with a full tank. I've seen Camaros do this. The other way is taking the fuel cap off and trying to blow air through the vent. I just blow through it with my mouth, but it usually leaves a nasty taste of gasoline. I swear all fuel caps eventually get clogged up and fail. I recently replaced the fuel cap on my Jeep for fault.

I grew up riding alone or with one other. So my style is different. It must work, since I'm still here and don't run off the road more than maybe once every twenty or forty years. I'll ride anywhere, at any time, in any conditions that allow continuous upright motion. That means no snow and ice, and really strong side winds will wear me down. Early morning frost warnings are a clue that you will probably fall down. Lightning is questionable, since it's attracted to large chunks of aluminum. Riding last year at night, on the freeway, in the blinding rain, was rather risky. Fair weather preferred. It's more fun. I ride my concentration level. Which means sometimes fast and sometimes normal. As soon as the concentration and attention to detail goes away or suffers, it's back to behaving again at slower speeds. Or stop and take a break. I also ride a threat level. A packed freeway will put me in defensive mode, taking position to escape all threats real and imagined. Yes, the older you get, the more you relax and slow down. At least a little. I am also one who leaves a bit of reserve in lean angle. And it's surprising how quickly one will use it when needed. We used to call it 9/10. Nine tenths. 100% is a razor edge with no margin for error. I always want to see my line before committing. I lead packs at the pace of the slowest. Which is often either the mechanical limit of the bike they are on, or their skill level. I like night rides. Midnight rides under Summer full moons are wonderful. This was before Ohio was covered in butt to nose deer everywhere. Not so wise anymore.

In other countries that have already experienced the influence of increasing fuel prices, the CPI jumped to the range of 3.0 to 5.5. United Kingdom is estimating 4.0 for the coming year. I would say that current US estimates are based on real numbers, which won't show increases till increases actually happen. Bear in mind that the CPI is typically about half the real actual cost of living.
