  1. Not Ohio, this was over in Salem Oregon. What's wrong with this picture. A ticket for 125 in a 65, a ticket for unsafe lane changing, arrested for charges of reckless driving, attempt to elude, hit-and-run, driving without insurance and failing to have a motorcycle endorsement on his license. Wrecked the bike, got thrown off the bike, bike hits a car while he's sliding 400 feet in the grass. He survives, and gets up and tries to run away. His excuse; "didn't want to get another traffic ticket". http://www.oregonlive.com/pacific-northwest-news/index.ssf/2010/10/motorcyclist_doing_125_mph_gets_ticket_no_injuries_after_crash_on_i-5.html http://www.kptv.com/news/25573087/detail.html http://www.statesmanjournal.com/article/20101030/NEWS/10300336/1001/news Courtesy of Marion County http://www.oregonlive.com/
  2. Image of multitudes of well armed motorcycles running on home brewed alcohol exiting a well fortified redoubt in the Southern hills of Ohio. "Sally forth!"
  3. Actually, for survival in the long run, a (zombie proof) redoubt is required. A place to call both home and fortress and occupied by all of us to defend it. I'm not sure where that is, but I would look at the tops of hills with lots of trees to build the required defenses. And yes, I've got the Army engineer manuals that show how to build one. Lots of shovels and rope and sand bags are also required. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redoubt edit: Near good sources of water and food.
  4. I say no, not touring. But a 919 is equivalent performance, and you can put bags and gear all over one of those and tour with that in comfort. That VFR is also equivalent, and has touring written all over it. Wouldn't have to change much with a VFR.
  5. hmmmm, I had one of those on a weapons development at work. $500 bucks each. I jumped on the bike at lunch, went to Columbus Fasteners, and got 4 for 2 bucks. Matched the required specs and everything perfect. Weird... Read the comments, a couple of people saw the reason. It does appear to be a forged blank, centerless ground, and the threads appear to be ground also. Very expensive. Plus the endless destructive testing of each batch, to guarantee that it will actually work as required. Hard to produce, and hard to prove it. Aircraft fasteners of this type are often hundreds of dollars. And yes, really tough steel can be as impossible to work with as titanium.
  6. I say again... get one or two of the books that describe all the vegetation that is edible in our area of Ohio. Learn it. I'm pretty sure weapons would only be needed for a short time. Darwin takes care of that.
  7. lol, we've been in Iran ever since the British left. Who were in Iran ever since the Germans left... etc etc
  8. Well, those Wiki Leak docs tend to say that we've been fighting Iran in Iraq ever since we first got there. So I guess I'm not surprised. You can't keep people from crossing those borders, either direction. Same as we can't keep people from crossing ours here.
  9. I saw one article from India that said it would be produced in India. so I wonder where else it will be manufactured, or will they be exports from India. I've had bunches of small displacement bikes. Hard to beat around town. Or should I say you can beat the hell out of them around town.

  11. "one poking tool" included.... alrighty then...
  12. Welcome. Some of us have been to the fundraiser rides that start there at the station. Always willing to ride over that way.
  13. Dog found through internet in like 6 hours? Holy crap. Less than a day, anyway...
  14. meh... I rode to work. Early, very early, so I could leave before the storm. Done. I left just before it got here. It was a little jumpy left and right on the freeway, but I've seen way worse. edit: Gen is correct, that storm had great potential, it just didn't happen this time.
  15. Clean the battery contacts. Maybe a cheap fix. You're losing power somewhere, and bad contacts would eat it up.
  16. Honeywell. You'll still have to pick from 8 different ones at Lowes.
  17. The aged patina on an old gun makes it more valuable. Changing or removing the "age" does indeed ruin it's intrinsic value. edit: btw, never use a rust remover on a firearm. Bluing and browning is a form of corrosion and will be removed. Voice of experience here, I had to re-blue a part on a Colt for my stupidity. I did hot bluing on the stove to fix it. .
  18. Including the one I just gave. Wild ass guess... Based on experience, of course...
  19. oh yeah, forgot... the odds are probably over 50% that the numbers are false before an election. It could very well change after the elections with some sort of excuse as to why.
  20. Yes. I've heard that an average worker will change jobs an average of 5 or 6 times in a lifetime. And not necessarily jobs in the same field. It can be a complete switch to something else. I've switched several times. High pay, low pay, and everything in between. You do what you gotta do. And twice retraining myself out of my own pocket for different knowledge and skills. Very few jobs are stable. It's best to have a backup plan, in case the economy wipes out a particular sector.
  21. I use 0000 steel wool and take my time. Cold bluing pens work well as far as I can tell for touch up.
  22. lol, dude, you're blinded by fear... this was hope...
  23. http://www.bls.gov/news.release/laus.nr0.htm Bureau of Labor Statistics released new data. The national average is 9.6% and improving slowly. Seven states still have high unemployment numbers related to the downturn in the economy. Mostly related to manufacturing and services. California, Florida, Michigan, Nevada, Oregon, Rhode Island, and South Carolina. Housing values have fallen approximately 50% from their peak prices in 2006 in the most effected states. Ohio's unemployment rate is improving, but still has over 5 million unemployed workers.
  24. told ya... as soon as a real "earth like" planet is ever found... somebody will go. No matter how long it takes...
  25. For some reason the website is now wider than my screen... "helpdesk" - did ya reboot yet?
