For anyone who cares to hear it: The last average (mean) freezing day for Columbus Ohio will be March 4. The last minimum freezing day for Columbus Ohio will be March 14. Record low temperature days are excluded. And of course, it rains in March and April. I don't care, the bike comes out of hibernation this weekend... yay

Many were voted out of office. And the president lost his party's place at the helm. Apparently some one has a short memory. I'd say they should be shaking in their boots. The time before, the reaction was immediate, and seats in congress were lost in only two years. Followed by a landslide of angry voters. I have no idea why such a politically suicidal move would be considered.And no, I'm not a big fan of Wayne LaPierre.

Yes, it does. But not if your oil is clean and fresh. If it ever does, it's trouble. It limits the volume of oil flow. Usually it's debris, bugs, gunk, gasket chunks, FOD stuff. Light weight stuff that can be pulled there and stuck. Heavy items like metal will go toward the drain plug. But in general, no, it's usually ok, and you won't have to pull the engine to check it this week.

I probably would, if that's what I decided. I have to think of how many Harley friends will only use "Harley oil". There are extremes both ways. I would not automatically buy a "Ferrari filter". But point taken, saving a buck and buying cheap will get you... cheap junk.

They are selling for base price 4250 to 4749 (full retail) so far. Saw one price on-line for 4100 but can't find it now.

The 2002 Suzuki GSX-R1000 K2 wiring diagram shows 7 wires from the bike to the rear. But it's probably 3 of them on a common ground, so it's 5. That's still a problem... I would guess they left out the chassis grounding wire. So the four wires are tail light, brake, left signal and right signal. A little experimenting with some wires and a battery should tell which one is which, and whether an extra ground wire is needed. Just be aware that is an automotive diesel/gasoline engine oil, and that might cause clutch slippage in some bikes. It does not have the newer motorcycle oil ratings, and does have the newer automotive ratings that indicate the use of low friction modifiers. Humour; one sport bike forum has a guy that says he uses it with a 1/4qt of STP. I'd guess that his clutch was slipping from the oil, and not slipping from the STP. The STP makes those clutch plates stick REAL good. DO NOT USE STP IN A WET CLUTCH MOTORCYCLE

You know what? Don't blame Yamaha too much, they might not have even known what was inside. The manufacturers contract out for stuff like filters, and get them made with their name on it. I'm sure they try to inspect and control the stuff, but not catch everything. If it was from China or something, who the hell knows what might be inside... I've been searching for info on that type filter, I've sort of seen something like it before. I'm not finding any info now. I think a pic should be sent to Yamaha, and ask them wtf.

I've seen tests of clean FRAM air filters that show they flow less max air than a dirty AC Delco. FRAM are just about the worst filters I've ever seen. And sure, I used to buy a lot of them, but not anymore.

btw, that's the weirdest dang filter element I think I've ever seen. I got serious doubts. I'd like to see some info on that one. Can't we all just get a paper filter? And I don't mean one of those roll of toilet paper filters...

The spring is to allow bypass of the oil so the engine won't be left without oil under any conditions like a clogged up filter or a high rate of flow. That's right, most filters on engines do not filter at anything other than idle or near it. As the RPM goes up, the filter bypasses unfiltered oil to the engine. Think about that the next time your oil is dirty and needs changed. I just noticed that Purolator is not recommending the extra high filtration filter for use on motorcycles. It says the higher pressure required may not be available on all motorcycles. This is new. I mention this because some people consider the Purolator filters the best filters available. I use them, and still will, but I'm not going to be getting the "Pure One" with the advanced filtration for the bike. Just the regular one. And dang it, I just bought two of them... Also noticed that Purolator now has a motorcycle line of filters, all chrome or all black. Just got a weird British full tank cover that has clips and snaps for a matching tank bag. I'll be getting that, it looks trick. Had it sent from England. Zipping backpacks to one side is necessary. It appears that zipped to the center lets water in and/or seems to unzip. I think it's the body angle in the wind stream. High speeds won't budge a magnetic tank bag, but it will remove items from a tail rack cargo net to be lost forever. Use a bag with a separate secure tie down, under the cargo net.
