  1. Yes, but the words average and minimum need to be taken into account. It will freeze some days in March and April, but they won't be average temps or minimum temps. It will not be freezing some days in January and February, but they won't be average or minimum temps. Statistics, argh....

    taxes....

ummm, actually, the longer it takes for a correction, the more likely it will happen in a single day, week or month.... I hate to say that, but that's how it works... apathy/greed/corruption/ignorance--> chaos--> anarchy Wait till the supply vs demand of gasoline or food or water rolls over, that's the start of chaos... Best guess is 2010 to 2020... Banks are in chaos now, if they refuse to give money back that would be anarchy. It's happened before. Anybody got a nice unpopulated island with a nice paved road on it? (And some gasoline)
  3. For anyone who cares to hear it: The last average (mean) freezing day for Columbus Ohio will be March 4. The last minimum freezing day for Columbus Ohio will be March 14. Record low temperature days are excluded. And of course, it rains in March and April. I don't care, the bike comes out of hibernation this weekend... yay
  4. From the first link quoted in the thread posted... He says this, because the last time a Democratic majority congress tried this, they lost their majority in both the house and senate. Many were voted out of office. And the president lost his party's place at the helm. Apparently some one has a short memory. I'd say they should be shaking in their boots. The time before, the reaction was immediate, and seats in congress were lost in only two years. Followed by a landslide of angry voters. I have no idea why such a politically suicidal move would be considered. And no, I'm not a big fan of Wayne LaPierre.
  5. Estimates are that more homes will be foreclosed on this year, than the total of the previous TWO years... No, not anywhere near the bottom yet.
  6. Yes, it does. But not if your oil is clean and fresh. If it ever does, it's trouble. It limits the volume of oil flow. Usually it's debris, bugs, gunk, gasket chunks, FOD stuff. Light weight stuff that can be pulled there and stuck. Heavy items like metal will go toward the drain plug. But in general, no, it's usually ok, and you won't have to pull the engine to check it this week.
  7. I probably would, if that's what I decided. I have to think of how many Harley friends will only use "Harley oil". There are extremes both ways. I would not automatically buy a "Ferrari filter". But point taken, saving a buck and buying cheap will get you... cheap junk.
  8. Part of the humor in this is that each and every attempted ban includes an attempt to ban something that is.... already banned. Ignorance is wonderful, when it's in it's place.
  9. I saw it, and it didn't last long, did it? lol.... wasn't me...
  10. They are selling for base price 4250 to 4749 (full retail) so far. Saw one price on-line for 4100 but can't find it now.
  11. The 2002 Suzuki GSX-R1000 K2 wiring diagram shows 7 wires from the bike to the rear. But it's probably 3 of them on a common ground, so it's 5. That's still a problem... I would guess they left out the chassis grounding wire. So the four wires are tail light, brake, left signal and right signal. A little experimenting with some wires and a battery should tell which one is which, and whether an extra ground wire is needed. More experimenting will be needed to tell which wire is which on the bike. http://www.wiringdiagrams21.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/2002_suzuki_motorcycle_and_atv_wiring_diagrarms1.jpeg
  12. Just be aware that is an automotive diesel/gasoline engine oil, and that might cause clutch slippage in some bikes. It does not have the newer motorcycle oil ratings, and does have the newer automotive ratings that indicate the use of low friction modifiers. Humour; one sport bike forum has a guy that says he uses it with a 1/4qt of STP. I'd guess that his clutch was slipping from the oil, and not slipping from the STP. The STP makes those clutch plates stick REAL good. DO NOT USE STP IN A WET CLUTCH MOTORCYCLE
  13. You know what? Don't blame Yamaha too much, they might not have even known what was inside. The manufacturers contract out for stuff like filters, and get them made with their name on it. I'm sure they try to inspect and control the stuff, but not catch everything. If it was from China or something, who the hell knows what might be inside... I've been searching for info on that type filter, I've sort of seen something like it before. I'm not finding any info now. I think a pic should be sent to Yamaha, and ask them wtf.
  14. I've seen tests of clean FRAM air filters that show they flow less max air than a dirty AC Delco. FRAM are just about the worst filters I've ever seen. And sure, I used to buy a lot of them, but not anymore.
  15. btw, that's the weirdest dang filter element I think I've ever seen. I got serious doubts. I'd like to see some info on that one. Can't we all just get a paper filter? And I don't mean one of those roll of toilet paper filters...
  16. Call me goofy, but I think this new 2009 Honda CRF230M is way cool for around town. 90mpg, 260lb, 230cc single... I think this one could be ridden all Winter long... It's a dual sports trail bike with street tires: http://powersports.honda.com/2009/crf230m.aspx

  18. The spring is to allow bypass of the oil so the engine won't be left without oil under any conditions like a clogged up filter or a high rate of flow. That's right, most filters on engines do not filter at anything other than idle or near it. As the RPM goes up, the filter bypasses unfiltered oil to the engine. Think about that the next time your oil is dirty and needs changed. I just noticed that Purolator is not recommending the extra high filtration filter for use on motorcycles. It says the higher pressure required may not be available on all motorcycles. This is new. I mention this because some people consider the Purolator filters the best filters available. I use them, and still will, but I'm not going to be getting the "Pure One" with the advanced filtration for the bike. Just the regular one. And dang it, I just bought two of them... Also noticed that Purolator now has a motorcycle line of filters, all chrome or all black. Cheap on amazon.com. http://www.purolatorautofilters.net/en-us/products/pages/motorcyclefilters.aspx http://www.purolatorautofilters.net/en-us/document/Documents/MotorcycleAPP_082808.pdf Ok, done... just ordered a 6-pack of black ones with free shipping, heh... one to two months to ship from factory... $10.54 a pair...

  20. 42,468 geeks in a line of two feet each would be 16.09 miles... just thought you'd like to know that...

  22. army surplus cheap black backpack, works great. tiny Nelson-Rigg magnetic tankbag for gps & stuuuuffff, works great. Krauser tail rack with cargo net, works great. (looks like a wing) bought Nelson-Rigg sidebags but not fitted and used yet. now thinking Ventura rack and bag system, huge storage capacity. Just got a weird British full tank cover that has clips and snaps for a matching tank bag. I'll be getting that, it looks trick. Had it sent from England. Zipping backpacks to one side is necessary. It appears that zipped to the center lets water in and/or seems to unzip. I think it's the body angle in the wind stream. High speeds won't budge a magnetic tank bag, but it will remove items from a tail rack cargo net to be lost forever. Use a bag with a separate secure tie down, under the cargo net.
  23. The political and military climate at the time prior to that attack (and most others) was severe and presented a desperate situation to Israel. Israel was out-numbered, out-gunned, surrounded and nobody looking like they would help. Combined with continuous claims of wiping out Israel entirely (nothing has changed), the entry of Jordan into the combination of opponents pushed the limits to the breaking point. Egypt's Air Force was considered to be the most dangerous opponent, and was attacked. The Syrian tank forces were severely underestimated. The Egyptian Air Force "art of deception" was severely underestimated. Tactical timing allowed Israel to stop advancing Egyptian forces at the Suez, and remove most of the threat by trapping the Egyptian armor in terrain that did not allow maneuver to escape. Israeli Air Force losses against the Egyptians was very high. Syrian armor was stopped with tremendous losses to Israeli armored forces, and is the primary reason the Golan Heights will probably not be given back for a long long time, if ever. Both the Israeli Air Force and the armored forces suffered massive losses. Opinions differ, but it's very probable that Israel had two nuclear weapons at that time, and came very very close to using them.
  24. Yes but.... in New Orleans you can get a job as tail gunner on a delivery truck.
  25. Do it motorcycle magazine style... more often in the riding months, and less often in the Winter months. twice a month in the 8 month riding season and once a month in the 4 month Winter season. And get some contributors to write...
