  1. My kiddo doesn't get out of crosscountry practice till after 7 so we won't be there until then.
  2. I was kinda thinking andover one too.. It just worked out well last year that the last 2 bridges were in the general vicinity of the Kingsville one..
  3. I'll swing by for a bit.. I'll be easy to spot.. red head with a 6 yr old whose eyes will be bugging out at all the bikes..
  4. If I go I'll probably bring the kidlet.. My bike is laid up until I get the chain replaced.. She loves seeing all the bikes..
  5. whoa edit that turned double post.. COOL!!
  6. I picked first weekend in Oct. because Ashtabula County has it's Covered Bridge festival the 2nd weekend.. It'd be hell to contend with tour busses, and tourist traffic.. Also I pick the week before because any construction, maintenance, repairs to these century plus old bridges is typically finalized just before the festival. Rain date Oct. Sat 16th or Sun 17th right now looks good.. Though we may start running into cooler weather.. On the other hand the leaves should be changing by this point and could make for better autumn pictures. I understand that not everyone rides in sub freezing temps so weather does become a little more of a factor.. Personally, I'm good either way.. if the weekend of the 16th works out better for people then I'm willing to adjust. Also, what are we thinking in terms of how many bridges we want to see? Of the 17, only about 14 on paved roads.. I think we knocked out 11 or 12 last year and that took all day.. we could reduce down to 7 or 8 bridges and hit a few other touristy stuff. (Ashtabula Harbor and lift bridge, Geneva On The Lake, the war memorial with the Chopper, etc.. Did we want to try to do dinner at Covered Bridge Pizza again or maybe arrange hookers and blow at Magleys? Like how I volunteered you to solidify this to be an Official O-R event??

  9. I've been asked occasionally over the last few months whether or not I was planning on organizing another Covered Bridge tour. The answer, I'm interested if your interested. I'm open to suggestions but I'd like to keep the general format of the ride the same as last year.. it went way more smoothly than I had ever imagined. So here is the start.. I will update details over the next few weeks.. comments/suggestions welcome.. PM me your availability. DETAILS: Who: Anyone.. all types of bikes (very 2up friendly!!!) What: Tour of Ashtabula County Covered Bridges Where: Astabula County When: rescheduled Saturday, Oct. 16th Why: See historical landmarks and a little autumn color Time: Kickstands up at 11am end maybe ~ 5pm What this is: relaxed paced, meet and greet with plenty of stops for pictures and such. What this isn't: a Race or good area for killing chicken strips. These just aren't those kind of roads. Meeting spot: Sheetz @ 10:00am. 2411 North Ridge Road East Ashtabula OH 44004 Coming from I-90 take the Ashtabula Rt 11 exit (exit 228) North. Proceed up Rt 11 for about 3.5 miles to the Ashtabula US20 exit.. Turn left onto US20 Sheets will be on your right Route: 1.meeting place Sheetz Rt 20/Rt 11 10-10:30am.. quick riders meeting gas, snacks, bathroom 2.depart 11am - Smolen-Gulf (group bike photo op), Benetka Rd, State Rd., Root Rd., Graham Rd (optional), S. Denmark Rd, Netcher Rd. 3.War memorial, break in Jefferson (Gas, drinks, bathroom ,etc.) 4.Doyle Rd, Riverdale Rd 5.Covered Bridge Pizza (Andover) for late lunch 2pm (group bike photo op) 6.Windsor Mills, Harpersfield Rd, West Liberty St.(if the bridge is ready) 7. Will be near I-90 for everyone head home (sun sets around 7).. depending on time and weather I may still make a stop to Ashtabula Harbor for photos and check out the 1st annual octoberfest at the harbor. skipping: -Mechanicville (another event going on has bridge closed to traffic) -Olin (with detours and Dewey Rd road conditions, just best to skip this year) -Caine rd. (dirt access, very rough loose gravel, all good photo spots are marked No Trespassing/Private Property) -Creek Rd (out of the way & very narrow, kinda tricky access road) -Middle Rd (dirt access) -Giddings Rd (dirt access) This route is looking to be right around 110 or so miles.. Notes: -If the turnout is large enough we will likely break out into 2 groups.. As impressive as it looks to roll with 30+ bikes, keeping the whole group together end to end creates safety issues. We had 7 bikes (and a dunebuggy) last year and that worked out great. 10. HAHA.. Emily and I were just talking about that yesterday.. I probably will start a thread to gauge interest real soon.
  11. Looking for suggestions for a shop in NE Ohio or someone willing to help me out changing out my chain and sprockets.. I had a stealership fist me real good the last time. Having him cut 2 links and rivet the master costed me nearly what the chain and sprockets themselves cost. Anyways, the bike is still ridable so I'm not opposed to a little travel.. No links to cut this time. If I had the rivet tool and a caliper I could do it myself but experienced hands are always my preference.. It's a 530 chain.
  12. My first guess was a short or bad ground involving the HID harness.. But I figured it would have been fused which should have popped by now.. Then with whistling and poofted battery talk my next guess was voltage regulator or stator going bad. 19V seems pretty high and can certainly fry stuff.. I suggest checking out the charging system and as previously stated, start checking for pinched or frayed wiring. That whistling/whining is your bikes electrical system being boiled like a lobster.. Good luck!
  13. doh!!! Too bad I can't get rep for my first offensive post..haha If you wish I could edit it in a more vague and short sighted way..
  14. Hopefully this doesn't get too off topic.. But I'd like to clarify. 1. slapping HIDs in cute projector eyeballs that are designed for Halogens isn't much better.. To do it right, projectors must also be designed for HIDs. 2. HIDs on standard reflector isn't efficient and the scatter of light could be a little harder on the eyes. But some cars did/do come with reflector assemblies and use OEM HIDs..(Prius, pre 2005 Lexus ES series) Then again their reflectors are tweaked for HID vs Halogens. Most people fail to realign their headlight assemblies after upgrading to HID.. I find that causes more of the "blinding" effect that just having brighter lightsource. 3. as previously mentioned, it can be prohibitively expensive to do a real retrofit.. Doesn't make them and idiot.. Now if you want to discuss light color and stuff, that's a different story. 4. Some just do it for the look. appearance mods are to each their own right? In my case, I sport tour alot.. and often at night. My bike doesn't have the reserve juice of a typical bigger ST bike. I also have a pretty worthless cyclops light. I'm of the opinion the headlight is just there more out of legality that function. For $65 I get better light output, saves me a little extra juice for the long haul, and longer lifespan than any halogen/xenon charged equivalent/higher priced incadescant bulb. I got tired or replacing my Silverstar after 4 months. That 20Watt savings makes enough of a difference when you've got electronics and heated grips going. But I'm the minority.. I sport tour with an old school sport bike and I went HID more for function than form. That doesn't say an FX35 retrofit isn't in my future though. I'm not offended or anything.. Just wanted to clarify things.
  15. Auxilary wiring harness is the way to go.. When I did my HID I simply used the factory harness a swtiched power source and the controller for the Hi/Lo. All the rest of the kit went straight to the battery with an inline fuse. And I'm one of those idiots..
  16. last ticket in a "group" ride was last summer.. ended up that the lead bike got the ticket we all just sat there and watched.. Cherahola Skyway.. yep you can figure it out. I get pulled over annually on Rt 11 in Ashtabula County.. 78, 73 (no ticket), 76 all in a 65.. You wouldn't believe the funny conversations that pop up with State Highway Patrol.. Usually about sportbike rider in full gear.. They usually don't buy the whole commuting to work answer.. Even if it's the truth. They really get pissy when you accuse them of specifically targeting motorcycles over cars that are agressively passing said motorcycles.
  17. So your speeding ticket probably breaks down like this. -court house clerk fees $50 -state disaster emergency fund $20 -'your out having fun while I have to work on a beautiful holiday' fee $10 -'ho' heap-a-trubble in my county son' surcharge $10 -heater energy cost for strickland's pool at his vacation house fee (cause it sure as hell ain't going to ohio roads or education) $5 -citation for speeding $1 WOOT WOOT WOOSTER!!!!
  18. Can someone teach me how to race Funny cars? I don't have one yet but maybe I could use someone elses. Anyone got Ashley Force Hood's number? Can anyone teach me how to drive a dune buggy maybe??
  19. http://youngstown.craigslist.org/dmg/1673764477.html ok at first I found it to be hilarious.. Then I became enraged.. So I'm going to try my best to be mature about this.. If by some chance the person who put this ad up happens to lurk or be a newb on this site.. I highly recommend you try a slightly better way of looking for help.. 1. do not refer to a bike as a crotch rocket when asking for someone to "TEACH" you to ride. 2. don't be a lazy ass.. sign up for the MSF course.. Learn how to ride the correct way..You even get to use someone else's bike.. and it only costs you $25. 3. Put yourself in potential teachers position. Would you let a complete stranger totally green to riding use your bike? PLEASE!! If your on this forum, do yourself a favor. Get help from a trusted source. Get your own bike.. Things like this ad tell the world how immature you really are about riding.
  20. DOH!!! Well I'm grabbing a bite to eat and heading back out.. See what kind of trouble I can find in southwest PA or something. I've still got a good 4 hours left in me.
  21. Timotheus and I didn't make it to circle K by 9.. no one was around so we tried to hit up millersburg mcdonalds.. stuck around till around 11:30.. gave up and headed back home.. Whats worse is that I didn't catch the post about the route.. Oh well the day wasn't a waste.. Just didn't get to see any cool ohio roads.. We hit some absolute ball busters and filling looseners on the way out to Eaton.. Edit: ok.. 241 out of millersburg wasn't bad.. there were some nice stretches of sweepers and hills.
  22. ok.. so Circle K at 9am.. I'm there for sure.. will take me about an hour 30 to get there from ytown.. heading out at 7am though.. I'm hoping timotheus will be coming too and bringing that sexy FZR1000 too.. as for having me home by dark.. psshhh.. depending on when we get back I may head to Presque Isle in Erie to catch the sunset.. Sunset beach bike pics are teh seks.. My daughter (she's 6) even washed my bike for me.. She wanted me to have a shiney bike for you all..haha Considering it still had the mud and grime from the Covered Bridge ride from last october still on it, anything is an improvement.. I can't wait! Took it out of commuting mode too.. top case off, suspension tightened up a couple ticks, db killer baffle removed.
  23. I did the same thing.. I came back from lunch and was like.. sunny, 74, I'm finishing up this one last project and I'm outa here.. couldn't wrap my head around anything but leaving so I filled out the vacation slip and was off like a prom dress.
  24. I just might crash in on this parade.. I've been trying to figure out where to ride.. Tearing up some WV roads sounded fun.. but no one to ride with.. Don't particularly like riding unfamiliar skilled roads solo. This sounds like fun and I've been meaning to learn some of the better kept secrets in ohio roads. After all they can't all be swiss cheese and sand/gravel covered. Told the other half I was leaving at sun up and if she's lucky I'd be home by sun up saturday..
